Default performance questions on ls2???

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and just took over on my brothers corvette to help him out financially. Now I'm interested in making it kinda mean. I popped the hood and noticed it has the 243 heads. My question is should I go with different heads or would I be good porting these for good numbers. I'm also interested in swapping out the cam and intake. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Stock LS2 motor is good for around 362RWHP with a tune (around 420hp) as it sits in the car now. But more so, a tune removes the hobbling that the TM is doing to the car, which allow the motor to put all it power to the ground (making the car night and day different, even with the few HP that you gain with the tune)..

In stock form, the non ported 243 heads, and no ported LS2 intact are crippling the car in some HP ( resistance in air flow since neither are smooth). With porting the two, your looking at a 20 to 30HP increase (air allowed to flow better as the heads/pistons pull in air).

If you are going to cam, forget the ported LS2 intake, since it will not flow enough air, even ported. Just go to a fast 102 and depending on the cam, may want to port the fast 102. As for heads, depending if you are going to port, depending of the cam, may be faster and cheaper to just get new heads.

Now to bust your bubble on a engine build. The stock LS2 motor is good for 600hp (stock exhausts and all), and dollar for dollar, the cheapest way to get to that 600HP out of the stock motor is with super charging.

A turn key 600hp E-force kit is $7k, which also includes the needed tune. Although a rotors super charger is often called a heat pump, it does produce tons of power from idle up. The down fall, the e-force will top out around 650HP max power in boost (2 3/4" pulley and retune).

If you are looking to make more than 650 HP in the long run, then you want to go with a centrifugal super charger instead. These can be dialed down to produce the power you want now on the stock motor, and if you desire more HP later, then a quick engine built bullet proofing so the motor can handle the plus 600hp, and crank up the boost to your hearts content.

That's great info thank you! I was planning on throwing a supercharger or nitrous on top of the combo also

Question, how much power are you planning on making, and for what (read high HP cam car can be brutal to drive in slow traffic).

If you are going to strip run, that gets real spendy, real quick. The stock drive line will only hold so much HP before you KB it, and as for nitrous, you better make sure that you are tuned for what you are spraying.

And trust me, you go supercharged (throw in a meth kit for safe measures if you are pushing a lot of boost) and you will not need nitrous.

To be blunt, the stock HP in the car can get away from you real quick with a tune to pull the TM hobbling, and adding more HP is just lighting the fuse on a stick of dynamite for most instead.

Watch this video, and understand that him slowing down was to push and hold the TC button for 5 seconds to turn the TC system off, and what follows is how fast the back end can get away from you when you don't respect the amount of power that even a stock vet can put down un-hobbled.

C5 pulling the same mistake on stock HP as well, hence not listening or feeling what the motor revs are doing compared to the speed gain, and once the rear tires break free to spin, it all goes sideways in a millisecond.

I'm thinking about the 600hp range. My main reason as dumb as it sounds is I'm converting the body to the wide body supervettes kit and want it to perform as mean as it looks. The car will mainly be used to just take on the occasional cruise, show, and to be able to hold its own if any shelbys feel froggy. Other then that it's going to sit in my garage with my other vehicles since I travel the country for work
