On my 2008 convertible with power top I hear a rattle type noise coming from the top just above where the glass comes in contact with weatherstripping towards the back of the side glass. There is nothing loose; I put light grease on the top mechanism connections and applied silicon grease to the weatherstripping but no luck. Its a slight rattle that you only hear occasionally but is more pronounce over median bumps. I have moved the top up and down looking for something loose but everything looks tight, just wondering if there is some sort of adjustment that can be done by a professional. Its annoying! Any ideas?

Hey Tony,
Sorry to hear you're experiencing a rattle in your top. I'm sure it's driving you crazy! Have you taken your Vette into your dealership to see if they can find the source of this rattle? I know you said it's only audible occasionally but they still may be able to locate the rattle. If you'd like any help setting up an appointment let me know!

I did take it to the dealer because I have an extended warranty until 8/15; they said it wasn't covered and if I wanted a tech to ride with me to hear the noise they would charge me $150 per hour for troubleshooting. They recommend a convertible top installer to look at it; I haven't pursued this option yet, that will be my next step. Should I go back to the dealer and pay the piper? The service tech acted like he didn't want to deal with it and said he had other priorities that day after I had made an appointment and was there on time. So I just drove away, not wanting to leave the car there for several days.
My guess is that it's the tonneau cover adjustable stop and not something in the top mechanism. I have a 2012 GS 4LT and my top was creaking constantly. Dealer had it for 5 days adjusting top but never resolved the creak. So, I took matters into my own hands. Open the deck lid, un-snap the top partition and move the support bar fore/aft where the tonneau cover meets the stop. If it creaks then that is your noise source. I used a thin film of Finish Line dry Teflon bike lube on the tonneau cover stop, let it dry overnight and it hasn't creaked since. Silicone spray was useless and so was GM dielectric silicone grease.

Thanks for the tip; you think that's the source even though the noise is coming from the corner of the window by my left ear?

Yep. Mine sounded like it was coming from the passenger side somewhere but I just couldn't pinpoint it until I pulled the convertible top partition and moved that support bar fore/aft and duplicated the noise.
