The computer on my C6 shows 30% left for an oil change. I have about 9,000 miles on this oil change already. That would be about 15,000 between oil changes. That seems like too much mileage, even using Mobil 1. I need some help with this.
I contacted GM about this same question. I was told the % life was very accurate. I was told by GM it calculates mileage, breaking, highway speeds, heat, cold ect..... When I first got my 05' I was getting about 13,000-15,000 mile oil changes. After the S/C install I'll be lucky if I get 10,000 out of it. That would show me the car does calculate different situations. I always change the oil once a year, no matter the mileage.
15K with the synthetics we have now, is not a problem for "normal" driving. I always change mine at least once a year, or around 10K, as I am on the conservative side.
Actually 30% remaining means you used 70% in 9,000 miles. 100% would be 12,857 miles, which is not an unreasonable number if a significant amount is highway use. My very first change came at 3% and 14,167 and I've never changed at less than 10,000.
Not me.... I change my oil and filter at 5000 miles. True that .. that Mobil 1 is very good oil but a prime reason to change oil is to remove the contaminants that accumulate there in. I doubt Mobile 1 does much with the acid build up in oil.
I also open my filter and read the pleats.
It's your car but oil is cheap. Going 15k miles is bragging, not good engine management.

No vehicle ever failed because of regular maintenance.
I dont believe going the 15,000 miles will hurt your engine however I believe it would be safer to change it at 10,000 just for the peace of mind. At $35.00 per oil change it is inexpensive insurance. I change mine every year however unfortunately the car only gets driven about 4,000 miles per year. I know I have to drive it more.
If much of your driving is on the highway, then that oil life is normal. It's up to you if you want to use the info that it is giving you, but GM says the info is accurate.

Trust your DIC.
If my 07 LS2 was allowed to go over the once a year limit on oil changes, the OLM would prorate to over 12k miles to reach 0% life. My 2010 CTS Wagon would prorate to 10,600 miles but I change it every 10k because it is a convenient number. My 2011 ZR1 won't make 7k before it hits 0%.

True, but GM also said there wasn't a problem with LS7 heads..lol. On a serious note, it's probably fine to go until the says to change the oil, but it's just not worth the chance to me. I'd rather just change it at 5000 miles or so and know I'm not going to have future problems. I think you would have to send your oil off for analyses to really know how much life it has left and then change oil based on that.

Mobil 1 holds up very well in vettes Search for Blackstone Labs, and you will find all kind of oil analysis test results out here. I have no problem at all going 10k between changes now, based on my own oil analysis test results on my vette over the years.
I've run my oil down as low as 30% life remaining, then did a change and sent a sample to Blackstone Labs. They said the oil was still ok and recommended I go longer for the next change.
So I think the OLI works well, at least on the C6.
But I have a hard time looking at all those miles and not changing it.
