I have an 05 auto and wanted to check the "Glove Box Fob Slot" I inserted the key, into the rear hatch lock and turned it 5 times in 5 seconds, as stated in the test procedure. What came up was "Insert fob 4" I only have 2 fobs should I reprogram the fobs?? Also, it did recognize the 2 fobs. Thanks
That means there are 3 fobs programmed to the car. One of the one's you have could be #3 which will not access any memory functions. You don't need to reprogram the 2 you have unless you want to erase the one that you don't have from the car memory. You will need to do the long program procedure if you do that. FYI to check the slot in the glove box all you need to do is take the battery out of the fob and put it in there and see if the car starts.
Unless you currently have three fobs, it means that there is a fob out there somewhere that will open and start the car. If that concerns you, the long procedure must be done to erase all fobs and then program the two that you have.

Thanks for the replies. The number 1 fob doesn't activate the "Memory" functions. Is it possible to just "Reprogram" that fob?

Nope. The previous owner probably lost #1 and bought a new fob and programmed it the short method and it ended up being #3. You'll need to do the long program method and program both of your fobs so they will be #1 and #2.
You can't just reprogram that one fob. But I should add that although you are calling it the #1 fob (the one that won't activate memory functions) , it is actually the #3 fob as far as the car knows.
(What the car thinks is more important than the number printed on the fob itself.)

Thanks again for all the replies. One last question I found 2 "Long" programing instructions the first one wants you to "Press the Unlock" button after programing and the second doesn't mention this step, which is correct???

I may be biased but I like this set of instructions:
Ok I tried the glove box slot and mind is not working. I did step 1- 6 nothing, I remove the battery from fob inserted it in the slot to see if it would start and still no fob detected so now what's next.

Then the slot is defective and needs to be fixed. If you want to dig into it yourself, the first step would be to simply check and see if the slot (really an antenna) is actually plugged in. If you do not want to do this yourself, then it's a dealer item or a very experienced Corvette shop.
