complete newb on this. must have owned about twenty cars in my lifetime and never changed the brake fluid. after reading some threads here, I decided to do it. I pumped in a full liter of new fluid using the brake pumping method. 16 to 20 pumps per wheel. the fluid coming out only turned clear on the final wheel. I realized that if I kept removing fluid at each wheel, it would have taken at least three times the fluid and three times the time to do get it clear at each wheel. if I pumped in a
liter of fluid in a system that takes half that, it must be pretty clean. btw, my car is a 08 z51 car. everything seems fine. brakes feel about the same as they did prior to the change. car has 57k miles. I hope it was worth doing but right now, not so sure. thoughts?

Over time water builds in the fluid which can damage components and decreases the boiling point of the fluid which can cause loss of brakes during hard use.
Years ago I did a 150-0 stop in my C5. The brake pedal went to mush after that since I boiled the brake fluid. The fluid was probably 6-7 years old at that time. So yes, it can happen.
I just flushed the fluid in my 2008 c6. If you track it/go fast, I would recommend it.

A liter is about right but it should have been clear at each wheel.

You need the fluid coming out of each caliper to be clear. The right rear and left front calipers are on the same brake circuit and the left rear and right front are on the remaining circuit. I always bleed each caliper until I know fluid has been able to flow from the master to through the caliper before I stop bleeding that caliper.
