Hi all. Purchased a 2011 Grand Sport with 11k on the odometer in August. After getting it home I noticed a valve noise (ticking) from between 1500 and 2100 RPM. Sounds to me like valve guide wear or valve ticking. Took it to the dealer as it was still under bumper to bumper warranty. They heard the noise and even put "ear muffs" on the engine to determine the noise. Their response was the noise was not causing performance issues and would not investigate further unless it got worse or caused a reduction in performance. I know these engines are very quiet at idle or up to 2500 RPM so am I getting the run around from my dealer? Any one else have this issue? I also got a "they all do this" on a seat issue where it rocks back and forth (1/4 to 1/2 inch) upon stop start from traffic I lights. What do you all think?
Better find another dealer. That one isn't worthy of your business.
The "rocking driver's seat" was/is a common problem. Not "all" of them did it but many did. And most were fixed under warranty by replacing the seat track. Here's just one example:
There are some DIY fixes around here if you're forced to go that direction but if the car is under warranty then it should be repaired by GM.
As for your "ticking" noise, can't really help. LS3's don't have valve guide issues, especially with 11k miles. They are quiet but not like a Honda or similar. So, not knowing your experience level with these engines, I can only suggest you find some other LS3 C6's in your area and compare, talk to the owners, let some evaluate your noise. Contact a local Corvette club, try a cars-n-coffee (I know not likely this time of year), etc.
