Default Brake Pads

Does anyone have any recommendations for a high quality reasonably priced brake bad for a C6? I am looking for something that will perform as well as the OEM or better in terms of stopping power and longevity.

Any opinions appreciated.

Advance auto ceramic pads are what I have used for many years. They are inexpensive and work great, not for the track though.

Thanks for the quick response. I should have mentioned that they are for street use only. Unfortunately we have no Advanced Auto where I live (Ontario, Canada).

I know I can get AC Delco, Raybestos, Wagner, Akebono, and Hawk pads for sure.

Several months ago, I changed my 427's front pads to Hawk Ceramics. I didn't have any performance issues with the OEMs, but every time I drove a few blocks, my wheels received a new coating of brake dust! (They're ZR-1 chrome wheels.) Performance wise, I cannot tell any difference, although I haven't gone out with a measuring plan to say for certain.

The car stops on a dime with the OEMs or the Hawk pads. As far as my research goes, the ceramics should last at least as long as OEM pads. The HUGE benefit is that the brake dust is all but gone! I rarely need to clean them. Now, I clean the fronts when I clean the rears (still OEM). Used to be drastically the other way (3 or 4 front cleanings to 1 rear cleaning). I'm really happy with the change, which ran a little less than $150 for the pads. Good luck!

I have had the Porterfield R4S on my car for a long time. This is the street version. Very happy with them and their stopping power. Lack of dusting, too. Not ceramic.

For a quality pad that performs take a look at the Carbotech 1521 pad.

F:$148 R:$128 Less 5%. I will be happy to set you up.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

Thanks for all the info so far guys. I am leaning toward the Hawk Ceramics since I can get them locally for a good price.

Are AC Delco Dura stops any good? I found the ceramic pads and rotors at a good price.

What about EBC brakes, I found out I can get them too.

I'd like to avoid mail ordering across border if I can at this point.

How has the rotor wear been? Advertised as being friendly but the comments on initial bite have me thinking.

Always looking for a better mousetrap!

Not sure when I will need pads, as with my 4Runner at 197,000 is still on the originals.

I probably drive the Vette even with less break use.

4:10's and love to engine brake. At 32,000 on the 08 the front rotor wear is very minimal. Rear almost undetectable. Pads not sure last and check was told they look new still.

I guess so much depends on the driver's habits.

'Bout all I can say, Dave, is that I've had them on since very late '07, have just about 40K miles on them, and my very unscientific "eye-balling" of the rotors show lots of rotor left, very light grooves, virtually no "edge" . I don't drive them hard on the streets, but like to play wherever there are good roads w. no cars which, admittedly, is rather rare around here and no real "mountains" to speak of. This is one of the few cars where I haven't overdriven and/or smoked the brakes to where they need cooling off---I guess the roads just aren't near enough.

Thanks Bill I already made saved the mfg link.

We have the roads here but with traffic Time in miles behind the big wheel has taught me to sloooow down. Just a cruiser now lol. But as you know I do enjoy the hell out of the 4:10 gearing and like to keep it smooth in the turns.

First I have head of the Porterfield line too.

Thanks!
