Default E85

I am not sure if this has been covered in a thread somewhere but looked around and couldnt find a real answer. I have been reading up on converting to E85. I use my car as a daily driver and want to know if anyone has info on the event that the stations I am filling up at every xxdays are not consistent with the E rating. most things I have read apply to a dyno situation and initial tune, but in theory if the rating was E70 and then next week it was E85 i dont want to have to carry a laptop around with me to adjust stochi every fill up. Maybe im not understanding the concept 100% so clarification may be in order.

Contact DSteck. He can get you going with a flex fuel setup. It integrates like stock and will allow you to run full 93, e85, and anything in between. Car will adjust automatically without any input from you.

Just PM'd him to get info. I was looking at the haltech sensor but the module and sensor is $600 and i couldnt justify spending that just to avoid taking out my laptop to adjust.

Without the module you'd have to run straight e85 and adjust the tune every time.

Yeah that's the problem with pump e85. It can fluctuate. That's why we run VP racing C85 in our race cars. But extremely expensive compared to pump e85.

If you are stock or near stock, do not worry about the difference between E70 (Winter Blend) and E85 for normal spirited driving although you should purchase a cheap tester to verify what you are actually getting. However, for the utmost performance and confidence, your tune should match your fuel.

E85 requires more fuel then petrol to be injected, so often the injectors need to be upsized, and the pump needs to be pressure up-sized to keep up with the larger injectors/new fuel demand.

Back at the PCM, there is a low and high octane spark tables that the car uses for petrol now, but in the case of E-85, the car needs to figure out that it's not petrol in the first place that its using (sensor), then use flex fuel tables for fuel and spark amounts instead of petrol amounts when running the E70/E85.

So as stated, if your injectors and pump can keep up with the needed fuel rates, then the car can be tuned to run it on E-85 only (go to E-70 or back to petrol, and the car will have problems since it being locked into a single fuel/spark tables to run the e-85 only).

Top left are your high/low fuel spark tables

Flex fuel disabled in the stock tune (middle left), since the car was not set up to run flex fuels.

i personally wouldn't run E85 without the flexfuel sensor
I am running dstecks kit and he tuned it, I have run 93 and E85 and a lot of combinations in between without issues
I use the dashlogic to monitor the %, the Aeroforce gauge will monitor it alao
