Squeaky Brakes - 2011 GS
I just got back from taking my 2011 GS out for a drive after it's been setting for about a month and now it has squeaking brakes when I slow down to stop. The car has 17,000 miles and the brakes were checked by my local Chevrolet dealer at it's last service, so I don't think I need new pads. Any ideas how to stop the squeaking? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Same thing here. (2013 GS) Squeaky brakes & excess brake dust. (I will be changing brake pads soon). In the mean time when they start squeaking, I speed up before a stop sign/light & then I hit the brakes really hard. One good, hard stop cures the squeaking brakes for the rest of that day. The brake dust has been an on going problem though that seems to be incurable w/the OEM pads. I will be upgrading pads very soon...

My 13 GS gets worse with a lot of braking. When we ran the Dragon it got pretty bad by the end. To reduce the squeal I would stab the brakes, then let off and stab again. With 12,700 on the car now it looks like new pads this spring or summer.

And honestly- unless you are tracking your car, I cant see spending $500 for pads when you are just weekend cruzing or daily driving. These things are dead quiet, 90% less dust then OEM, and offer excellent braking. All for under $100 (front and rear) if you find a coupon code!

My Z brakes on my base squealed. My brakes on my 2011 base (18k miles) squeals like a stuck pig when I slow down. More precisely it squeals just before stopping. I've come to accept that this is just a Z/GS brake characteristic.

The stock pads are real good performers but will scream like race car brakes. THIS IS NORMAL. Please don't bother your shop by having them look for the noise.

Several people have noted how the brakes squeak more just as they reduce pressure before coming to a stop. The way to reduce this is to increase the force on the brake pedal. Stop the car in less distance so you have to keep the brake applied hard until the wheels almost stop turning and then relax pressure on the pedal to keep the nose of the car from bouncing when it stops.
It takes some getting used to but you do not need to drag the brakes to stop at stop signs or traffic lights. Just go deeper toward the traffic device and use your brakes harder. No extra wear on the brakes or tires and the squeaking will go away. Start by going 50 ft deeper and if the car comes to a nice stop without hassle, cut another 50 ft and repeat until you are applying the pedal hard all the way to the stop with the slight release just before the wheels stop turning.
You are driving a sports car with brakes made for much harder use than the typical grocery getter. Drive it like it should be driven or drive like your great grandmother taught you how to drive.
