Default Need advice on Z06 with Performance mods

Alright guys,

I hate being the newb asking the questions, but rather than asking a shop or googling I figured the best place to ask the questions for genuine advice would be from guys who have a passion for this and no what they are doing.

I have been in the truck building industry for quite awhile and have been built SEMA trucks but this is my first Vette journey.

I am about to purchase a 2009 Vette Z06 fully loaded with 6,700 miles on it. But it has quite a bit done to it.

Here are my expectations:
Car will be driven 2-3 time a week, short distances, just a 3rd vehicle. It is replacing my SEMA build.

Mods (per the owner)
ERL Performance Superdeck 427 Block
Mahle Forged Pistons
1-Piece Titanium Rods
LG Motorsports Ported Throttle Body
Fast LSX-R 102mm Intake
LG Motorsports ported and polished heads
LG Motorsports Longtube Headers
Borla Stinger Exhaust
LG Motorsports Carbon Fiber Engine Bay Package
Bilstein Coilovers
20x9 Front
20x13 Rear
Asanti AF150 wheels
Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft
HD Clutch Transmission Heat Shield

What should be my main concerns? Is this something that is going to need constant work? Is this setup reliable or a ticking bomb?

This will not be a daily track or drag car, maybe here and there but not something I will constantly be putting to the test. The last "built" car I had was a Trailblazer SS built by RPM Motorsports, but it wasnt street legal so I hardly ever drove it.

I understand this is a newb question, I am coming from a F250 with 14" Lift and 40" tires to a corvette.

What do you guys think a car like this should be sold for?

Thanks for all the help.

I'm not the expert you're looking for, but I guess my question might be the same as yours: isn't the most important thing, not the components (they ARE important), but who put it together? And how well it was put together? In other words, kind of like going to one of those fancy car auctions, sometimes it's more important to hear/know the name and reputation of the "restorer" or in this case, the builder of that car, than how pretty it is and how original it is (or modified). jmo

That's kinda like asking if Megan Fox would make a good housewife.
All the parts are there for performance and appearance, but you don't intend to use them very much. You're concerned that the maintenance could be high, the reliability questionable, and if it's worth it. So how well would Megan fit in that criteria and could you afford her?

A Camry fits your wishes, except for the occasional racing, which means you need to consider the Vette is a toy. Toys sometimes break, especially when built for maximum performance. So step back a pace or two and ask why the current owner is selling it. Is it no longer streetable for those 2-3 times weekly local drives? Will it be allowed to run at the track or strip as is, or did the build leave it well short of rule compliance and/or competitiveness?

someone has sunk a ton of money into it, I hope you get a good deal. It takes talent to build an engine and nobody would trust joe shmo to touch their 75k baby if they were a rookie. Get it and try to keep it between the lines and shiny side up

trying to figure out if the price is reasonable or not. I know cars this modified are difficult to resale. I think i can get it in the low 40s. But some vette owners ive talked to you have warned me that this car is only worth 30-35 in the next 6-12mos.

What are your thoughts?

Low 40's is an awesome deal, $75,000.00 car, $20,000 in upgrades, low mileage, professionally built. Cars are like the stock market, no one can forecast their future value, but I can guarantee you won't get this car for 30 grand in 6 months. I think you may have some jealous Corvette friends that don't want you having a badder car than theirs lol

If you ask me, I'd have to agree w. ernie85 and psp's posts. You're buying a used car, so truthfully, anything could happen---price-wise or car-wise. But at least this car you know was put together correctly. Hopefully, it looks like, and was taken care of by the owner.

Can you get it today, or six months from now for $5K or $10K less? Sure. Maybe. And maybe only if there's another 2008 recession. Who knows? I don't.

Maybe those other Vette owners have impeccable logic for their reasoning that the value will drop like a stone (much less in 6-12 months is dropping like a stone, to me). If so, follow their advice.

Mods bring the price down unless the right person sees the car and wants it. The question is are you that right person??? Based on your questions and comments I sort of doubt you are. Do you really want a car like this or do you just want a stock Z06? Just a stock Z06 will be a night and day change from an F250 this will be even larger.

With LG doing the build the engine started out fine. The next question is how did the PO treat the car and is the engine still fine. Then factor in how hard it might be to sell this car to somebody else a couple of years from now.

I really do appreciate it guys. Still weighing all my options. I would prefer a bone stock Z. But to be honest this isnt a car I will keep for an extremely long time. So it is also important to me on how and where I buy it. I just happened to be lucky that I have an opportunity to buy this one at such a low price. I just am trying to figure out if its a car I will be buried in or not. I appreciate all the advice!

I was Z shopping for quite some time before I bought my 08 base (bought in Nov). Trust me and the other guys when we say its not a 30k or even 40k. Searched and only found two cars in the upper 30s with way more miles (27k). They were also older 06 and 07. Its a good deal but it may be much more car than you want. 600+ rwhp is kind of a lot. Best of luck, its a hell of a car
