Default Need help from tire experts

Will be taking the stock Goodyears off my car this spring.(2008 base model. Front size is (p245/40zr/18. Backs are (p285/35zr19).I"am going with Bridgestone RE-11A on front and RE11 on back. When I look at same size tires non-runflats the tire with is a little wider than the Goodyears in same size. I new different tire manufactures have different specs, and the car is stored off site so I can"t check . The new tires specs look 3/4 of an inch wider. Which I like but would it fit on stock rims(gumbys) properly. Got the specs on Tire Racks web site. And how big could I go with the RE-11s on stock rims under the wheel well with proper fit?

Thanks

255-265 up front max. 305 on the rear. The width of the tire at the bead should be pretty consistent from manufacturer to manufacturer. The overall profile will vary as will the contact width.

Thank-you Franman69 for the response Do you know if a 255 in front and a 305 in back in Bridgestone sizes would fit inside the wells and would not throw codes. They look like they are wider than the stock Goodyears in same size. I would like to have the most contact to surface as reasonably possible. On stock rims.

Those mention tire widths will be at the maximum width for the stock (8.5/10) rims. No codes.

I ran 275/305 on 10/11 inch rims and took them off going back to stock size. The car felt sluggish with the steering response. I did not like how the car handled.

The car was set up to run the oem tire widths for a reason.

What are you after going with the wider tires? If it is traction then go with a high wearing sticky comp type tire. The stock tires are wide enough. Dial in the rubber composition for you style of driving.

Tire rack will tell you most the tire brand specs, like width for example.

Thank-you for the response Boomer
After reading every think I could, I will stick to stock size RE-11A for the front and RE-11 for back. its a good sticky tire after they warm up and have 560rwhp now will go to 600 next year maybe and see how they perform this summer.

Hope your rearend/driveline can take 600 hp stress with sticky tires. Watch the clutch pops!

A 285/35-19 with 560 RWHP will sit there and burn. I'm not too sure what you can use on a base coupe that will fit but I'm having trouble keeping 560 RWHP on the ground with 345/30-19 Michelin's PSS.
Good luck!
And by the way.........

Yes I"am aware of that, Working on that now. RPS clutch going in and ECS tranny brace. No dig runs. But after 7yrs of stock Goodyears on the car, This will be a improvement. And these tires don"t get slick after they get hot. Not a lot of drag racing more curvy road stuff. Been talking to Doug Rippie about all of this. All of my mods I have ran by him since he has sound advice on this subject. And the pictures I have seen on this board of broken rear ends, makes me very aware of this condition. Like many have said. "You have to pay to play" Thanks for all the help guys. And yes my grammar sucks.

So I understand the need for more power. But in reality, on the street anyway, 20 to 70 mpg is probably the most used envelope.

I went with the steeper gears. More seat fun.

Really for the street these cars stock have more than enough power for passing and on ramp merging.

I can see if going to the strip or a track junkie but just for the street I think maybe better ways of spending the money could be found. With less headaches too.

Just saying...the 4:10's really add to the performance feeling of the car on the street.

The muscle has always been fun. And 20 to 70 is just where it starts to get fun. Look at my posts for mods. Its all good and my wife loves the safe acceleration. Thats why the stickier tires. Plenty of tread left on these tires 12,900 miles. Have not had one thing go wrong yet with this car but as miles mount and mods go on something is going to happen sooner or later. Just enjoying it while we can.
