Default Temperature gauge

I have an '06 convertible with a stock engine. My temperature gauge went to zero and a notification came on my DIC saying "Hot engine-air conditioning off". Checked the code and replaced the temperature sensor at the front of the block. It worked fine for several weeks. Yesterday, it went to zero again with the notification back on the DIC. Today, it's working again but the "check engine" symbol was showing so I pulled the code again, Showing PO128. Do I have a faulty sensor or something else?

Just a thought; To get more feedback, maybe you should first state your car's model year & maybe some extra details about it. You're probably more likely to get some responses to the inquiry.

P0128 means "the engine should be warmed up by now but the sensor is reading low." It errs on the side of caution by assuming the sensor reading is unreliable.

If the sensor and wiring is okay, you could have low coolant or a bad thermostat. Do you have a 160deg thermostat? Was it just insanely cold this morning?
