Who has The Highest horse Bone Stock 6l80?? corvette or camaro, Turbo supercharger or nitrous?
I plan to find the actual horse limit for a stock 6l80. My vette has made 630 for over a year with no problems with my transmission.
The new build is a single pt88 front mount and I am out of time to get it built before tx2k. So I am Going to Try and rock it Stock. Hopfully it last for a few good pulls.
Yes I understand most of the problems are in the tune. My tuner Is the Best in my opinion! so lets hope it holds!!
While I'm nowhere near high power (LS3 boltons), I'm curious to know what you consider as stock. Does that mean just the mechanicals, or does it include the tune and/or converter?
I'd also be interested in how those cars were driven and how many miles too.
I'm currently at 123K miles (about 115K with a tune/mods) and have had a 3200, a 3600, and now a 4000 stall. I also am closing in on 500 track passes and an untold number of WOT street blasts to triple digits. Because I'm running high 10's and trapping 125+, I suspect the HP is in the 450 range. Other than fluid changes during converter swaps, the transmission itself has never been touched.

I'm talking all stock internals. Mine will only have a circle d stall other than tuning will be stock! I'm going to test the limits!
I have made I'm guessing hundreds of 0-120+ street pulls hundreds of 40-150 pulls. And at least 50-75 track pulls with no trouble at all. I have a tru cool 40k cooler and never see temps over 160 even on a hot day. I am moving the trans cooler to the rear and adding a fan so I hope to keep the same temps this go around.
I tried the rear cooler with fan and it didn't work for me. If you do it, post up where you located it.
If you're interested, I machined a plate with hose fittings for a rear mount. I'll try to post pics tomorrow.
I assume you know that the 3-4 shift is the weakness and the likely area for failure.
Mine gave it up after a few summers and maybe 50 runs at the track with around 600 rwhp. I really think with good tuning and cooling they can live a very long time on the street. Constant use at the track............not so much.
I have now done upgrades with the help of a local transmission guy and it has been fine for 2 summers with 780 RWHP. I didn't do a lot of runs with that power level though.
I just turned it up a bit to 980 rwhp. I don't have high hopes but I will keep the 6L80 as long as it holds up. Then I have to consider the options for something stronger.
damn! I'm at 456rwhp with a stall and it feels pretty quick, I couldn't imagine double that. good to know that the 6L80 can hold a decent amount of hp before giving up the ghost.

What upgrades have you done?
how does it feel on 980? Strong ??

Just finished this build and dyno'd yesterday. Wont be able to drive the car for 3 months due to being a retard and living in the north pole.
Pretty simple upgrades.... few extra clutches in 4,5,6 pack, Billet intermediate shaft, welded drums, updated pump, and better filter. Few other small things I would have to find my notes for details.
who built and tuned tranny. just from what i have been reading the 6l80 isnt holding up. im glad to hear some have got it working. im just looking for the 450 - 500 rwhp, probably just a sc. i live around louisville ky, does anyone know who is the best tuner around here.

Mine was built by myself with help from a local trans builder, and tuned by me.
I do not expect it to hold up long at my new power levels if I go to the track. In street driving it might hold up ok for a while. Only time will tell.
Good to hear the success stories of the 6l80. I am very close to pulling the trigger on a S/C system and I am not in the mood for a transmission as well
FWIW-I know its a different transmission, but I heard so many horror stores about the 4l60e on my c5. I ran a 150 shot from basically 20k to 96k miles. Never had an issue. If you read enough on the forums, you would have thought the trans would explode on start-up.

Here's the pic of the adapter and a line blockoff plate I made, when I tried the rear location. I suggest the blockoff, in case you want to go back to the front the lines will be clean.
You'll kill a 6L80 from a bad tune A LOT faster than you will from high HP. Keep in mind though, it's not a matter of IF a 6L80 can take 800+whp because they've done that. The issue is how long they live at that power level.

Eh? You can hit 450 with bolt ons and a cam. Hell I hit 489 with bolt ons and a cam. You don't need an SC for 450-500whp.
