Default Kooks Header install issue with transmission lines

I just installed a set of Kooks 1 7/8" headers on my 2006 Z06 I bought them used so I had to source the transmission cooler line bracket.

Well it came in today and no matter how I position it the lines are still sitting directly on the header. Anyone else had this issue?

There is a clip holding both lines together and little further down should I remove that?

Does anyone have pics of there lines and bracket?

I mean the clearance between the collector and bellhousing is less than 1/2". I can momentarily push the trans line off the header with force but even then I'm getting like 1/16" of an inch clearance.

My last set of Kooks fit like crap and so do these. Disappointing to say the least.

I don't remember for sure, but that bracket pushes the line away from the header about half an inch and new they come with some heat tape that you wrap that line with. I bought some extra from the parts store and wrapped a few other things they were close to.

Yeah I wish.

The most clearance I can get is 1/8" at best, Ill wrap the header and line. But regrardless I only have about a 1/2" between the header and bellhousing. Is that normal?

I saw this thread and this guy has WAY more clearance than I do. Not sure if he is 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 though.

I've uploaded some photos.

Is it possible that my header is bent?

I wouldnt think so. If no one helps tonight, I'll crawl under my car tomorrow and take some pictures for comparison for you. But clearance is not a word I would use in your situation!

That would be great! I would really appreciate it.

Yeah, I doubt the header is bent as well there is no damage to them at all I htink you would have to have hulk strenth to bend these things.

I called Kooks and they asked me to send these photos, now I'm just waiting for them to reply. Something isn't right here.

Took some pics with a tape measure to get an idea of dimensions.

Less than 1.5" here

Most clearance I can get.

Good luck with kooks. In my experience, they ask for pictures and act like they will help, then deny that anything can go wrong in their manufacturing process. I had an xpipe that was the same diameter as my oem axleback so it wouldn't slip on.

Yeah pretty much what they did. They just told me to move the lines more but I'm like there I no where to move them the line are already up against the engine. I call american racing as well.

You are going to have to use some force on the lines and possibly even the header to separate them. It may help to loosen the oil line mounts on both sides of the issue.
Sometimes we use a floor jack and a 2X4 on the header to move it 1/4". Make sure it is bolted tight to the head first.
Best of luck!

I installed my 1 3/4 a few years ago. I seem to remember a tab that bolted to the frame that held the line up away from the header. I could be mistaken, but that's what I recall.

1 3/4's have the same issue. They either contact the trans lines or rub the heat shield.

Here's my install:

The trans line clears by 1/8", which is nominal, but you don't want the line contacting the header. It will burn through the metal line because it's an alloy, not a hardened metal.

Here is another post on the same subject. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-headers.html

I added a small hole in my bracket and added a zip tie to hold my lines as high as possible. I wrapped my lines. I have about 1/8 of an inch of clearance

You said you bought them uses. Is there any chance that they had been in an accident and maybe bent the headers or tweaked them. I can't even begin to tell you how many sets of those we have installed and we haven't had any issue like that. It is a tight fit, that is allot of tube going through a small area, but you should have a little more clearance than that. Make sure that someone did not open up the bolt holes on the headers, that could allow the header to rock and would put the collector either really close to the bell housing or really far away depending on which way the header moved. My guess it is not something so to speak with the header, but the car. Could be several things causing it or even the installation itself. Not saying that you are not capable, but I see it everyday here. Go back and check and make sure everything else is right, like I said we have installed at least 100 sets and more likely way more than that over the years. I don't recall having a set that is so close that there is an issue or with a line resting on the header.
