Unless the Maf with AIT sensor is moved to under the heat shield too, then kind of pointless since the intake is still pulling air from the front outside of the car, and not the engine bay.

I thought the Maf with AIT measured air temp/air density in side the air intake tube not outside. Could you give me some 101 on that? Thank you

It is, but if you are staging long enough with low flow through the intake/MAF and the engine bay cocking instead, then the engine bay heat can transfer to the MAF/AIT sensor. The run will push enough air through the MAF to cool it back down so timing is not still be pulled, but not before the timing was pulled by the ECM to begin with instead.
This is why some CAI manufacturers have moved the MAF forward under the heat shield instead, like the Halltech SuperBee MF103.
Thank you Dano 523 and timd38. From what I see from Halltech, The heat shield comes with the package for $585. plus tuning could be a cost of $800.-$1000. I do not see the heat shield being sold separate. Maybe I'm wrong. I will give them a call.
I just telephoned the above link, Corvette Mods and spoke to Mandy and was told that it does not fit an LS2 2006-2007 Base model. So far I have yet to find a CAI shroud for a LS2 base model anywhere. Anybody else know?
You could make one. Make it out of three pieces of cardboard then get a sheet of plastic and cut it out an the using a heat gun bend the 90 degree corners.

The intake is drawing air in from the front of the car, not the void, and the MAF is back at the TB, and would not be under the cover.
If you just want to have the void covered, then a sheet of ABS plastic, and a heat gun will allow you to produce a void cover instead. It not going to do anything for your set up, and in fact just be a Major PITA when you need to pull the filter to clean it, since it one more piece that has to be unbolted as well.
You can do a quick mock up with a sheet of cardboard, then transfer that to the ABS plastic sheet for the needed cuts and bends to produce a Void cover.
If you have a stock filter, how is air coming in from the front of the car? There is no opening in that void. Take your filter out and look down there. Guy's are making openings and then trying to isolate any engine bay heat from the intake filter. Not everybody agrees on this theory but thats ok.
