What should one expect to pay to have a new cam installed? Also, what other components need/should be installed while the cam's going in? New pushrods, springs, etc??
Lastly, any recommendations on a cam with a little Lope? I have to take into consideration that a S/C will be going in within the next 10 months too. I have a 2005 roadster A4.
Probably get more response by posting in the Forced Induction forum. There are specific cam recommendations for FI cars and depending on what HP you are trying to achieve.
I've been going back and forth with Josh from Horsepower Addicts in Delaware. He's a forum sponsor and offers a cam package installed for $1850 and they don't charge sales tax in Delaware. I'm opting to add a few thing to the package he offers like an ATI balancer and c5r timing chain, but it's still relatively cheap. After a good amount of cam research I decided on the spinmonster cam for the best drive-ability and some great gains

I'm in Evansville and have been looking into doing a cam in the next year. What shop has this package? I'd like to look them up and talk on the phone about things. You can PM me info so that we don't Jack this thread. Thanks, Tim!

Damn $2195 for all that, no one around here would touch that price plus I don't really trust anyone around here with my car. Looks like I'm gonna have to take a road trip elsewhere.
Doing a cam is sort of like remodeling the house. There's always a bunch of extra stuff you end up doing and raising the cost.
Yeah my package started at $1850 then I added $180 for the timing chain, $460 for the ATI harmonic balancer, and then he's only charging $300 to put my Kooks headers on. Hey, atleast its in Delaware and there's no sales tax

Check out Cartek, they have done all the work on mine and it runs great and its fast, and sounds great
See the tag bracket in the avatar in post 11. It's no bull---! Dennis knows what he's talking about. Just check out the ls2 fastest list.
Julio at Cartek tuned 3 cars for me, the results were great.

Julio is a tuning machine, he tuned my car when it was new know body had the capability to tune a c6, i went and called everywhere, only he could do it, I run my car hard, great gas mileage, a proper and very safe tune no leaning out for a few extra hp, I dont use any oil between 7500 mile oil changes. also my dealer actually couldn't tune my car when we put a stock converter in, Julio did in a couple minutes, I let the service manager drive it and he recommended that Julio should make the program for gm. I still run the stock trans with converter and with an automatic still hit 10.16@132 mph in the 1/4 NA stock bottom end rods rod bolts crank pistons block with a very easy launch. and no tricks or a track tune, no changing the tune at the track, the tune that was done on the dyno 6 months earlier when the heads were put on
Well.. I spent about $3K doing the full job including dual springs, retainers, push rods, trunions, CoW high-lift cam, C5R timing chain, Mellings HV oil Pump, new ATI Underdrive pulley (pinned) and a full tune. CoW isn't the cheapest, but you know you're getting a great job and a great tune. He's also 15 mins from my home. Car is a beast now!

I saw on your stats, you had: 10.62@126.98mph on a 1.411 sixty foot
Kooks long tubes/X-pipe, 160 t-stat, Corsa cat back, Vararam CAI, Cartek ported FAST intake & throttle body, Cartek fan module, underdrive pulley, high stall torque converter, gears, EWP, drag radials/skinnies, all installed and tuned by Cartek.
What is the stall speed on your converter? Also what cam are you running to pull 10's? I haven't decided if I am going with a S/C or N/A. Damn, your 05 is unbelievably fast!

when it was a bolt/on car it was the vigilante 3800 with the 373 gears it drove like stock until you tapped the gas, then we did cam and then heads it just wouldn't 60 ft better then 1.45 i aligned it different shocks all different settings, new drag radials and just wouldn't break 1.45 so i switched converter to a yank 3800 and bam 1.34 60 ft was the best on part throttle still couldn't brake stall to the max as it would blow the tires, but it even drives on the street better then the vig. the cam is a custom Cartek cam designed for my car, I told Julio I didn't want one that has been generically used from the LS1 LS6 as I have seen what the run, this is what it sounded like cam only and did run a 10.35 at 132 with a 1.45 60 ft

Wow, 3800 stall speed and it drove like stock? I had a 3000 Vig in my 1993 with 3.73 and it kinda felt like the tranny was slipping during stop and go driving. How's the drivability with the yank 3800? My car will be my daily driver. Was the reason you ran 3.73s and the 3800 because of the lopey cam?

No the gears make the converter like stock, even when i had the 315 it seemed like you had to give a lot of throttle to go, but with the 373 it moves with less like stock and the yank couples quickly into overdrive better then stock if you are driving easy, best move I made http://s49.photobucket.com/user/denn...162-1.mp4.html
I've got the optional 3.15 from the factory, what would you recommend for a converter?
Is your car a daily driver or just a track car?
I would still go with the 3800, I drove it with the 3800 the first year no problems, i drive it everyday, have driven it to Manhattan and Maryland several times
