I have a 13 GS. I have ARH long tubes and a mild Cam and Tune. . I didn't waste my $ on a Cai. I kept it stock. After all the research on a Cai it wasn't gonna make a big difference ,so I didn't bother.
My next Perf mod will prob be Ported Heads...
My racing buddy had headers, cam, tune, stall, and DR's, but was stuck in the 11.40 range. He finally added a Vararam after I hounded him for a couple years. Now he's running 10.97 - 11.15. It's all a matter of getting air to flow through. If you choke it at either end, you give up power.
What else do you plan on doing to the car? If you are planning on stopping at a CAI, I'd skip it and go right for a tune and be done with it.
I have to agree with this statement, the only reason must aftermarket CAI work is cause they tend to lean out the air fuel ratio due to less restrictive air filter and because the factory tune is on the reach side.
When this condition is corrected by tuning the gain is denied for must aftermarket CAI.
I have one and don't mind paying a premium for it cause the faster the speed the more air is forced into the engine and off course this one must be tuned for but it works.
The Vararam. I don't use the air tube but a 4 1/4 inch id instead and there's battle neck in it that must be massaged as the air exits into the tube.
On the dyno we can't put the fan straight in to it cause the engine won't stay running.
You can gain the 10 WHP with the factory intake just by changing the filter for a K&N and when the OE CAI is pared against the competition as far as the main structure design, it is a better design in must cases.
I know there will take flak for this but I take a better design instead.

Vararam works. My current c6 has the best CAI+tune only time on the fast list. My previous c5 ran 11.93@123 on a 100 shot untuned. That was an ls1 a4 w/ vararam, 3.42 gears, axle back exhaust, repro rims, and no tune on street tires. I don't think its a coincidence that the trap speeds are very high because of my luck. My c6 hit 11.9x@120 on street tires about every run right of the highway, on street tires.
