Default Thermoquiet brake pads

I asked the same question on the General forum yesterday and didn't get any replies, so I'll try here.

I just picked up Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic pads for my 2008 coupe. The description for the parts (QC731 and QC732A) and on the box says one-piece design with an integrated shim, but there are shims on the pads. On the shims they say TQ526 and TQ118. It would be a heck of a coincidence to get two different boxes with the wrong parts.

They don't look like the pictures on the boxes they came in. And according to their instructions, you're not supposed to put any grease on the back of the one-piece pads, but should put silicone grease on the back of a pad with shims.

from the attach link it appears the thermal barrier betWeen the pad backing plate is enhanced with their integrated shim.

It looks like you install them like traditional pads - grease applied in the backing plate side where it touches the caliper and piston

btw your post doesn't ask a clear question

What you're saying is exactly my issue. They have a traditional metal shim on the back, so I'd normally put grease on the back. However, the part number is supposedly an IMI pad with an integrated shim, and the manufacturer specifically says not to put any chemicals on the back of IMI pads. The picture on the website does not match what I got.

Sorry. I forgot to say "has anyone else used these pads, and what did you do?" at the end of my post.

I've been using Thermo Quiet pads exclusively for 13 years (except when not available for the application or OEM are requested) and you do NOT need to grease the contact areas.

I've always been a believer in using the grease to keep pads quiet but I've found that it seemed to just trap more dirt and dust and either create a noise or just make a bit of a mess over time.

Usually when you remove OE brake pads, regardless of manufacturer, they are not greased. Just clean the all contact points on the caliper, caliper bracket, and caliper piston really well. Also be sure to clean and grease the caliper slide bolts with a SYNTHETIC caliper grease. You'll also really enjoy not having to constantly wipe your wheels from the excessive dust.

Thanks! And I just now got a Customer Service reply saying the same thing. This model does have a shim (that still conflicts with their description). The TQ526 and TQ118 stand for ThermoQuiet and the production numbers, so they aren't different part numbers.
