I'd say that it's your car so therefor you can do what you want with it.

My QTP Cutouts are one of my favorite mods, over 7 years now and going strong. Cutouts sound great to folks in the car and sound much deeper than NPP or z06 mufflers if you like that old school muscle car sound.

Be very sure to use flanges to direct the exhaust away from your fiberglass leaf spring, they will melt if you blow exhaust on them. Mine is good to go going on 8 years.

If you have headers you can't do what Douglas in Green Bay did (collectors go where his cutouts are), you'll have to route them like I did back by the transmission.

Great mod. I'd suggest the new wireless controller, see it demonstrated at the end of my thread.

This was his first C6 and he found a great place to put them and made the custom mandrel bent Y-pipes to maximize flow from the cutouts. We found no way to put them right after the collectors but they fit well by the trans. I have the DTE brace too but it wasn't in the way.

Installed the wiring myself along the drivers side rocker panel, behind seat then out the wheel well under the carpet. Removed the rear inner fender and drilled a small hole in the wheel well then ran the wire down to the cutouts. Hardest part is finding a hot wire when the ignition is on on these C6's. I ended up tapping the seat heater fuse as others here have done.

They are loud and DEEP when open at idle. I've actually heard louder exhaust though, I was kind of surprised they are not louder. I think it is because of the turn downs and the fact that I have cats and the pipes are pretty long before the cutouts. On the track they have a nice race car sound - I'd say like Borla Stingers plus 25%. When you open them at a stoplight you will turn heads, that's for sure.

Overall happy with the mod, it gives me quiet during my morning drive but loud when I'm at the track which is what I wanted.

Here is a video of idle with cutouts open and closed. The gain on the mike makes the closed sound much louder than it is, it's really quiet with factory mufflers even with my cam.

Here are some pics:

Are these photos of a automatic trans? I am just concerned about the heat and the spring. If I go with the low profile cutouts seems like it will get hot real quick

Hello,

My photo of cutouts is C6 Automatic Weapon.

You are correct, don't blow exhaust on the leafspring, it will crack!

I cant tell on your photo where you have yours mounted. I see that they are the low profile. How long have you had yours on? Any issues?
Thanks

Default Cutouts - me too

Don't want t hijack your thread but I'm getting ready to do cutouts on the XS Power exhaust system (long tubes and 3" pipes) that was a group buy here a few days ago. I tried to contact Doug's Headers for some questions but they don't seem to be replying to email. Looks like a bad sign.

Any you guys have info on Doug's vs the other brands and do you know if I'll need low profile or will standard round cutouts work on the C5 with 3" pipes.

Again, don't mean to hijack and I will start a new thread if you have a problem with my questions. Thanks

Hello,

My cutouts are mounted about 3ft after the cats and the car sounds great when they are opened up.

I installed these 5 years ago with no problems. When I am stuck in traffic I close them so that I don't heat up the bottom of the car, when I am driving I will leave them open for 1/2 hr at a time!

You can mount Qtp cutouts where I have mine mounted. You can't mount yours where Douglas in Green Bay has his mounted as your collectors will occupy that real estate.

Thanks!

I just don't want any issues... SES light etc. I think I will install like this and also put some heat protection also. Just put some of that 1500 deg sticky padding stuff...lol

You won't get an ses from cutouts but on some locations like Sweden they won't pass an emissions visual test.

I have QTP Cutouts on my M6 GS. They were installed while the car was in for the headers/cam install. I also have the remote. Recently, I have found the cutouts will stop working (opening or closing) after the car has been running for a while. What's up? What should I look for?
