just had headers, cam, CAI and tune done on a 2013 427 vette.. I can tell the difference in power by the seat of the pants feeling, however dyno was 630 at the crank. My issue is it backfires and pops when changing gear and deceleration. I’m used to some gurgling on decel but this is like firecrackers going off like gurgling , pop, BAM!!!
I heard that backfires and gurgling is due to excessive gas not being burned properly, is that correct, Can that be tuned out?
need some advice do I just live with it? my girlfriend is afraid its going to blow the mufflers off.
Its part of the overrun. DFCO (decel fuel cutoff) controls how this works.
I removed my dfco and it does it a lot more now which is pretty cool when you know its not hurting the car.
Note: dfco affects engine braking - removing dfco takes a bit out which helps stabilize the car at corner entry... some race teams play with this to adjust the cars characteristics...
Back firing is not normal. I agree, the new tune needs to be checked. Was this a mail order tune or was it done on a dyno and street? The "gurgle" is normal, but you shouldn't be getting a loud pop or BAM. If you don't have a local tuner, I can recommend an excellent tuner that can help you with your issues, via mail. Mike
No mail order, Doug from DRM in Minnesota did it. He told me to send the ECM to him and he would fix it, I’m just not sure how to get it out of the car.
Have the shop that dynoed it pull the tune and email it to DRM. It will cost a little but saves you the hassle of pulling the ECM and mailing it. Otherwise it is in the front passenger side wheel well. You can do a search on this forum for Corvettes of Westchester and he shows where and how to remove it.

My modded 08 was back firing until i got the exhurst leak fixed. It was a leak at the X pipe where it connects to the axle over pipe..
I was going to get my tune "adjusted", but glad I did not. I had a small leak, and it was amazing how the loud popping/backfiring has virtually disappeared with fixing the leak.
Sooo, I now recommend to double check that you have no leaks in your exhaust first, before messing with the tune
Mine will backfire and pop on deceleration in gear. Was tuned on the dyno. But I have noticed if the a/c is running it will not backfire or pop at all.
How do you remove the DFCO? I see a lot of variables in HP Tuners. But nothing specific on removing DFCO.
There is no like ON or OFF selection.

Curious, if you don't mind...how radical is your cam, did you do anything to the heads, valve springs? What CAI did you use?

Enable/disable temps and rpms. Or if you just want to tweak it then play with the associated tables... I just went with it being totally disabled. People love the backfiring and the fuel mileage is still about 14mpg city and about 25-30 on the highway
