Default Check Engine light and P1816 code. 2005 A4

My trusted local shop read, diagnosed, and cleared the code. The hard shift has disappeared, but another symptom appeared. This time a hesitation in 1st gear "D" or "D1" while accelerating...only in 1st gear. It was like a dead pedal for a second or two, then acceleration normal. Hesitation returns if in 1st gear (A4) No CEL yet for this second symptom.

Problem is the trusted local shop is 2 weeks behind and I have a trip to SC planned in mid May. What am I dealing with in terms of repair?

I am hesitant to take it to another shop, BUT, I'll ask the question anyway..............Do any of you know of a trusted transmission shop in Central Ohio, Columbus, Ohio area (north Columbus) ?? or do I hope the local guy can get me in.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Dave

On edit: I discovered that the hesitation happens in ANY gear (D,D1, D2, or D3) but just at the beginning of acceleration. But, after leaving church this morning, everything was normal........no hesitation or CEL.

Any suggestions?? I would like to be able to trust that it won't leave me stranded on the side of the road on a long trip.

Default still in need of your expert advice.

Thank you Dana523 for your reply. Not sure what all of that means..............but when the code was cleared he mentioned that code was rarely seen, and could be caused by small debris blocking a valve or something.
The questions are now, what caused the acceleration hesitation, and, despite there being no symptoms now, should I have it "checked out" to ease my troubled mind ?

Perhaps that hesitation/stutter in D, D1, D2, or D3 was not transmission related, but something else.

I would like some understanding before turning the car over to undergo surgery.
Thanks again.
