Im currently looking at a 2008 vette base coupe 3lt..automatic..15300 miles..previous owner put billy boat exhaust and a pro charger p-1sc-1 supercharger on it..my research tells me this charger boosts hp up to around 620 and torque around 585..this car is all stock except exhaust and charger my question is will this ls3 stand up to the xtra power and will auto tranny handle the torque..its strange that someone would put 8000 bucks in a car and its now at a dealer with such low miles..any opinions helpful..thx
OP, a good place for looking is the forced induction section of the forum. From what I have read on the forum it should not be an issue. I'm a 6mt guy, so no direct experience.
My opinion: if it was done very well, everything may hold together. I'd do as suggested above and go to the Forced induction section of Corvette Forum. But to know at least how it was put together, you need to find out who did the the work, and what else may need to be done to beef the drivetrain, if anything.
When you buy a used car, you may want to plan for things to go wrong (potentially, but not necessarily immediate). When you buy a modified used car, there may be a higher likelihood that things will go wrong.
Someone else can go into the horsepower thing because I don't recall reading that an LS3 that starts life at 430-436 crank hp goes to 620 crank or rwhp with a supercharger, but maybe it does.
It's pretty normal for a centri sc'd(ECS, A&A) ls3 to be upper 500's rwhp without meth injection and 600rwhp+ with it (which is over 700 crank hp through an auto trans).
The LS3 will handle 600ish RWHP for a good long time. The LS motors in general are pretty darn boost tolerant. I've seen LS3's making 800+rwhp and one in particular made 900rwhp on the stock bottom end with meth injection. The 6L80E lifespan may be shortened some at your power level but if you drive it reasonably without constantly ragging on it, it should still last a good amount of time. It would be a good idea to have some money set aside for a trans upgrade if/when it eventually starts going out.
I'd have no problem buying a supercharged low mile c6. If it was 100K+ miles I might be a little hesitant pulling the trigger.
