Default Reverse grinding and hard 5th gear shift

I have an 08 z51, 45k miles. Car runs great but high rpm shifts into 5th feel locked out and must be played with to get it to go. I'm not one to force something I know wont work so I just let the rpms come down then go in. Its only when I'm really giving it. I've also developed a reverse grind, if I'm in neutral with foot off the clutch and then try to go to reverse I get a nice crunch and a big spike on the speedo, but it goes. I've performed rangers method and will be continuing to flush throughout the week as I drive it. Clutch fluid was black as soot but is getting better. The only way to stop the crunch is to go into 1st before reverse or go into reverse slowly.

Taking care of the clutch fluid is important and a great start. Once you get it clean you only have to do it every few months and it stays clean.

Given your symptoms you might need to align your shifter. Sometimes the shifter box comes a little loose on the torque tube, and sometimes, the shifter box bushings get worn out.

These are instructions for a c7 but they are the same. Console is easy to remove, there is a hidden screw under the parking brake boot, don't forget about it.
