I have a 2006 c6 with a built motor and z06 clutch I am currently having some tranny issues. When I bring 4th gear to redline under wot it won't always let me into 5th this started yesterday. It doesn't grind it just locks me out. Also right after that started to happen reverse now grinds. If I go from 1st or any other gear then to reverse no grind. Am I having a 5th gear synchro and reverse synchro issue seems odd both happened at the Same time or is it a slave or clutch issue or something else
From what I"ve read on here, it could be in the trans itself. Or it could be in the shifter mechanism. At least in some there is an adjustment potential, and there are also some bushings down there that get torn eventually. I'd go on the MGW shifter site, or search on here for the latest posts/threads on MGW shifter installation. And also the post by George of MGW re why he now includes a box along with the shifter with pics. His rationale was something about the fact that the factory setup was weak; so he solved it with his shifter and box selling both together. Not that it really matters, but I assume you've been regularly changing the clutch fluid, right?
I just recently picked up the car 2 months ago just picked up fluid to do a flush on the clutch fluid and gonna do it tomorrow and see how it goes it really seems like the slave might not be pushing hard enough I'm gonna see if the flush helps it seem odd that reverse grinds like a complete shot synchro but never showed any sign of going some I'm leaning on that the synchros aren't actually bad
And it's back it went away for like 2 tries and came back it definitely doesn't seem like the synchros cause it came with zero warning next it's gonna be shifter bushings
I believe it's clutch related. Specifically, my money is on the slave cylinder. If it's grinding going into reverse then to me that seems like the clutch isn't fully disengaging.
I had the same thing happen on my C5 just before the slave cylinder died. It would be OK some days and next to impossible to get it going the next. Usually after it was warm it was drivable but still not great
It eventually was so bad I couldn't get it into reverse one morning so I pulled it apart and replaced the slave cylinder and clutch. Never had the problem again.
