Help after clutch install.....
Clutch is a c7 lt1-s. I wanted to do the project with just me and my brother, as we put one in our 99 C5 vette and 07 LS2 vette prior. Wanted to save money on labor and we knew how to install it anyways.
So with limited time to work on car and only certain weekends it took about 3 weekends to complete as we also decided to put in a 3.90 rear seemings we had it out anyways. So with the wait time for parts, that's why it took 3-4 weeks.
This last weekend we received the new diff and started working early sat morning. We got everything installed except mufflers and wanted to start it while it was in the air and run it very gently threw a few gears ( 40 mph never going over 1600 rpm) to make sure the speedo was working as we broke that wire by accident and had to fix it.
Everything worked great and the speedo was accurate. No abnormal noises (had mufflers off tho) and no leaks. So we thought finally we can get this project wrapped up and do the 500 mile diff and clutch breakin this weekend yet!
So we finished installing everything else and lowered the car off the jack stands. We then started it up and backed it out of the garage and all of a sudden we noticed a drive train noise!
The noise is only while idling (900 rpm or less and no gas pedal) and while the clutch is out/ engaged. As soon as you push the clutch in the noise goes away.
So we get it back up in the air, we we both think the noise is coming from either the tranny or the tq tube. You hear the noise up by the clutch as well, but we think its louder at the tranny side of the tq tube and its just transferring the noise up the tq tube and into clutch area.
The sound is like a rotating rattle is as best as I can describe it.
Has anyone had this problem before? We never even disconnected the tranny from the tq tube! So rt now were just tired of the car and almost want to just take it somewhere to get fixed so its not held up another month as work is really busy now.
Is this something we did wrong on the install? Or is it a big coincidence that either the tranny or tq tube is now bad? Or is it just due to low fluid in tranny as some of the fluid got lost out of the tranny cooler lines?
Any help would be a huge help!
Thanks in advance!
Cory
That is likely why monster rates it a "3" for idle noise, where the LT1-SC is rated higher
Regardless, it's impossible for us to tell over the internet whether it's just noise or something is actually wrong. Twins will generally be noisier than single disc clutches..

It drives great and clutch engagement is real smooth and the shifting is beautiful! But when under engine load less than 1500-2000 rpm there seems to be like a "lugging sound" sorta grunt from the drive-train.
Also I did realize after further inspection, the tranny was about a qt low of fluid from loosing it out the tranny lines while drivetrain was pulled out. Is it possible that could have caused a bearing problem? The car was driven about half a mile at 40 mph and idling with clutch out for maybe 5 min tops. With a qt low of fluid could that have caused a problem?
Also I can make the neutral noise go away by simply pushing the shifter towards any gear slot/gate......

When you push the shifter towards a gear slot it will start engaging friction rings which will start trying to sync everything up.. if you're sitting still then that means it's trying to stop the torque tube/clutch from spinning. My guess is that little bit of pressure is all it takes to get it to stop rattling
May want to email Monster to see if it's normal and if it's something that will improve or not
