I've read about maybe 3 cases in the 5 years I've been on here and all were with M6 trans. Never with A4. If you avoid wheel hop you avoid a broken rear diff case.

I know of only one A4 breaking a rear and that was Dennis50NJ who has way more passes and Mexico runs that I do.

It's not the same steering wheel and is having the same steering wheel as a Chevy Cobalt is better?
The interior trim pieces are the same in the 05 as any other year C6. Maybe some added leather and hydrocarbon in later years but what else besides that? They didn't redesign the whole car after 05.
I don't know what your talking about having it's own computer system.

I would not buy the first year anything except a Honda......

First year, test driver

Second year, fix first year issues

Third year, take cost out

Fourth year, fix third year cost reduction and take more cost out and start mixing parts bin for new models or special editions.

Fifth year, fix previous cost reduction, consolidate components and more special editions out of the parts bin.

Six year, build what you have left in stock because the car is at end of product life cycle.

Steering wheel is NOT the same as c5. It's a one year only design that doesn't match a Cavalier/Malibu whatever cheap Chevy like the later cars. It actually has a nice Corvette emblem in it.

Computer is E40 vs E38 in later years. Works just fine, zero problems.

Four speed auto is Much more reliable for high horsepower cars, particularly on the drag strip.

Interior is the same as later years, though 3lt in 2010 is nicer.

They are the bargain c6 with very few growing pains and a big bargain for a great performance car.

Ah you have to have one to know how good they really are.
I have a 2005 A4 with 3.15 gears and some bolt ons. The cars is 10 years old and has many, many trips down the 1/4 mile. It runs consistent low 11 second runs. The trick is to up grade the stock shocks with bilsteins.

I have had the top recall and replaced the gas cap and that is about it, the car has 74K miles. In regard to Dennis' rear. He was not driving at the time and the individual who was driving drove through some tire shake/ wheel hop instead of letting up.

05s with the M6 are much easier to lose a rear do to axle hop/tire shake.

Oh and I also have a 14 too, I wish it was as good as my 05 for some my C7's reliability is not that great .So sometimes a first year car is good and sometimes no so good...... it is the luck of the drawer

Dennis good post, saying stay away from an 05 is an idiotic statement. Yes are 05's the best C6 out there? Look at the C6 Z06 with their issues, I would have purchased a Z06 if money wasn't the issue. I just bought another 2005 C6 and I love the car because it fits my budget needs and its leaps and bounds better than my old C5 Z06.

We see more broken 05 diffs than any other years. This is what usually happens.
