The dealer talked me into putting Dexos in my 08 Z51. Talked about how it's in the 650 HP ZO 6. Should be good enough for me. After doing a little research I’m not so sure this was a good idea. Car has 30k miles and sees an occasional track day and has never burned any oil. Any thoughts……..
Dexos is not a brand of oil. It's a specification made up by GM. Most likely to sell their own brand of oil. As far as I know it should be as good as Mobil One. I don't think its in any way better. I myself will stick to Mobil One.
Oh, and I have not said this in a LONG time but I'm feeling a bit unruly today so I'm gonna say it. You don't have "a Z51".

Mobil 1 is a Group IV PAO oil. Dexos is cheap Group III. GM is trying to get paid to use a Dexos license. I use Red Line, also a Group IV PAO and if you look at the data, Dexos spec product is inferior to a Group IV PAO.
Remember GM had TPC spec tires? They are trying to do the same with oil.

So far it looks like I'll be changing back before the next track day.
Grand Sport is a model. ZR1 is a model. Z06 is a model. On Camaro Z28 is a model. Z51 is not. It's an option. If it were a model it would have badges on it from the factory just like ZR1/Z06/GS.

Some people from both sides are sensitive about it. When GM puts a badge on the car that matches the option code in the glove box it's now a model. When they opt not to, it's just an option code. Doesn't affect me one way or the other. I understand both sides. That said, even though you may not have a Z51 "model", calling it a Z51 identifies the configuration of the car more precisely. Z28 wasn't originally a model either. Just an option code.

I hear that those new Z/28's are great track cars!
Those cars are awesome. ...I would take one over a new vette in an instant. They are gorgeous cars in person. ....and I'm not a fan of the camaro for the most part

I think ... that the dealer has nothing but dexos in stock. All GM car lines recommend dexos since 2011 or 2012. It can be synthetic or a blend. Ask the dealer what they used ...
I remember when I worked as a tech for chevy, they would tack on bottles of EOS to customer's oil change service. Most techs just threw it into a milk crate next to their tool box. A waste of money twice, the thing was soo thick you probably lost 4-5 miles per gallon.
