Venting About Tire Change
First off, I'm new here and I hope this is this place for this. Maybe I have no reason to be frustrated and I should chalk this up as just a bad day. I've had my 06 M6 for about 3 weeks and I have kept it in the mint condition I bought it in. It's my baby. I bought a K&N air intake, axle back exhaust, nav unit, and new rims for it.
Today I took the car to a well recognized national chain tire store to have the new rims put on that also came with tps sensors. All went well for the first 40 min as they took the tires off and gave me my old rims back. My wife had almost left to go back home with the old rims when they came out and asked to use an old tps sensor since the snapped a valve stem on one of the new tires. I agreed and they took one off the old set and my wife left. About 2 hours in the tires were on and I noticed guys just walking around the car. When I asked what was up they said I had another bad tps sensor and my wife needed to bring another one up. She loaded up the rims and drove back up to the store. They grabbed another sensor and tried it on a different tire. They said they couldn't get the computer to read the sensors. It was now almost 3 hours into this and now past closing time. With my car in the bay I noticed a guy cleaning the bay floor with an air hose and I saw my windows were down. The entire interior and exterior of my car now has a thick layer of shop dust all through it. I was told there was nothing they could do to get the sensors to read and they would give me a $20 discount to take it to a dealer. I was just so frustrated that I agreed and paid my bill and left. Stopped by an auto store on they way home, bought some cleaning products so I could spend 30 minutes just cleaning the exterior. I'll save the interior for tomorrow and have a few frosty beverages now. I'm not sure if I'm just having a bad day or justifiably frustrated. Car goes in to the dealer on Tuesday and I'll have them look at the sensors.
Thanks for letting me vent. I didn't want to name the chain in case they are a vendor here. Btw, everyone here is great and I'm learning a ton with the search feature!

I don't blame you for being frustrated. they should of come good for the TMP Sensors that they broke. Not your fault, theirs. WOW!!!!!
They are incompetent. Are they going to pay the dealer to try to read the sensors, or will the bill fall in your lap.
I bet, the dealer will want to give you a deal (not) on new sensors.
As far as the clean up, they should also be responsible for that, having the nerve to air clean their dusty floors with a customers car still in the bay.
BTW, there are no tire installers as vendor, so go ahead and name them if you can't get any satisfaction from the owner. They deserve it.
Also, you should post this in C6 general discussion, as more members frequent that section than any other.
Good Luck

Moderator: can you move to General Discussion
It was at a Discount Tire. I thought they had a good national reputation and I wanted to use someone trusted. I'm sure the dealer will charge me more than $20 to sync the tps sensors. Thanks guys.

Feel your pain, several years ago I took a set of C4 Collector Edition wheels to a shop that had a reputation for installing custom wheels - the rims are marked with a sticker in the spot where the sensors are. They didn't pay attention and broke a band that they are secured with. They decided to take them all off and mount the tires anyway. After I raised hell and wanted to talk to the manager they claimed they had talked to my wife and she okay'd it (wife was out of town). Ever since that learning experience I make sure to tell anyone doing my tire work that they have sensors and if they damage them they replace them.

I took the humiliating drive home with the traction control light on and the warning screen reminding me not to drive over 55.
Woke up this morning to find one of the tires flat. Guess i will be there tomorrow morning when they open. What a horrible experience from a national company.

no the "tech and performance" is not for this purpose, maybe the General section? but I really don't think CF is the place to feel better about a bad experience, maybe you should have yelled at them, you will want too when you find out the dealer wants ALOT more then $20

Went back to discount tire this morning and found a different crew. The store manager and asst manager sat down with me. After gearing the story they looked at my car immediately (I was the only customer). Within 2-3 minutes they had the tpms sensors reading and they took off the tire that went flat. Turns out there was some crud around the bead preventing it from sealing properly. Less than 20min everything was fixed and when I need any tires I'm supposed to call the manager and he said he will hook me up (good thing my wife needs tires). Some guess it turned out ok in the end, just was a PITA.
Thanks everyone

Hello. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new vette.
This topic would be better on the general section, but now you know. It doesn't really matter.
So, I'd NEVER bring my corvette to a chain tire shop simply because they vary so much. One shop may have good people, one may have really bad people. That is why it would be good to join a local Corvette Club. You can ask members where they get their work done. We have a local tire chain (I know.. it is a chain, but a small one), Hogan tire, that I really like, but I know them. Its been in the same place (Natick MA) for over 40 years. They had their top guy do my car because the car is too low for their lift (without driving up on pre-ramps or something). He did one corner at a time with a racing jack.
Zero issues. TPMS all ok.
So join a local club. You'll learn tons reading this forum too. You probably have only just begun to have some of the quirky things that happen with these cars. (e.g. car won't start, KEY FOB NOT FOUND message, most likely your cell phone and/or 12/5V phone charger is interfering with the key fob wireless. Or leave your car for 2 weeks at an airport, you get DBS, and so on)
