Default A6 Shift Linkage issue

Was backing the car out, stopped and put it in S ( all the way back( and heard a kind of clunk. Now the paddles don't work and I don't have reverse. Also, it will go into park and hold the car still, but it is not reading park as the convertible top won't go up ( DIC is saying put into park). I replaced the shifter cable a few years ago. This is most likely a cable issue and not the trannsaxle, wouldn't you think?

Oh yea. Probably the bushing where the cable connects to the shifter, pretty common failure point. When you get in there you'll probably see the bushing shattered. GM doesn't service just the bushing but you can buy workable replacements at Autozone in a "Pedal and Shift Linkage Bushing Kit".

If it stays in "S" and wont go into any other gear, then It's the cable. I had to have my towed last week because it was stuck in park.I could move it to any gear but it would not move...Cable came off at the tranny..Good luck.

That sounds logical, but I can't figure out Reverse and why it won't go in. Is this an electronic function?

Does your shifter move smooth as butter...I'm sure it is not a electronic problem,,,

Sorry, on the road from FL to PA. The shifter seems to move fine as usual, it just won't register being in park when it is, or being in sport when it is. I tried moving it a tad forward and back in the reverse slot and it still won't go into reverse gear. Drove all night, 16 hours, so I'll have to look up how it operates and tackle it when I get back.

Default Problem solved

I was getting ready to take the console out and go at it on the shifter bushings when I messed with the shifter **** a bit. That seems to be the issue with the white plastic tab not going far enough in when depressed by the ****. Took the cap off and pushed it and it now goes into reverse, sport and recognizes that it is in park.
