Before you get started, there are some essential questions that you need to ask and answer yourself:
What are your objectives/goals?
Do you (intend to) drag race or do road course type racing, or do you just want a good performing street car?
Do you want/need to drive it everyday? If so, how much time are you going to spend on the road, in what kind of driving conditions and, consequently, do you want to sacrifice or enhance MPG?
Do you prefer a loud car or quiet car?
Most importantly, what is your budget, if you have one?
These newer cars are actually amazingly simple and rewarding to modify and tune, in the right hands. There's a myriad of options for you. Search around on these forums and then post back on here and ask any questions that you may have about anything.
Just make sure that in the end, YOU decide what YOU want, based on your own preferences, because, like everywhere else in life, you will sometimes get very subjective advice on here.
