As our C6 become older, many owners I know are changing out their water pumps and hoses and doing a complete cooling system flush ( really an easy job on the corvette no one should be afraid to tackle ).
If you do this, however, please be aware that the placement of the water pump facilitates cavitation ( air pockets that prevent proper coolant flow ) ... and the procedure outlined in the service manual to remove these air pockets may not work.
You can tell if have an air pocket if you run your corvette after a coolant flush and you see your temp gauge climb really rapidly -- and hit unusually high temp readings.
If you do have an air pocket that is tough to remove, you will need to negative pressurize/fill. I personally use the UView 550000 Airlift Cooling System Leak Checker and Airlock Purge Tool Kit. some auto parts store will loan you this tool --- really easy to use and works great.
