procharged C6 blows rear end (video)
The case starts to flex, the pinion gear tries to walk up and over the ring gear since it's not longer supported correctly, the case lets go, and the pinion gear shaft snaps at the same time. Hence the weak link is the support between the rank and pinon gears to hold them together correctly to begin with.

Bluntly, GM built the corvette diff as a cast'd light weight road coarse unit, not a drag unit. The internals are not bad on some of the diff, such as the Z06 units, but the weak link in the units will always be the case for the rank to pinion support.
So if you are going to strip the car, then Billet Aluminum case to being with, and forget about weight lighting cutting it, since the thicker the case in all the areas, the stronger is going to be.
Note, T-56 and T56M/tr6060 will hold over 7K of torque no problems, so it makes you wonder when GM installed a diff mated to them that them only around half of what the trans will instead).
