I searched through this site and got mixed thoughts about this. Some threads stated they should be replaced at 5 years since new tires are being installed and some threads show people with 10+ years on original sensors.
1. So, for my 2010 GS (~30k miles) should I replace the sensors or just have them "rebuilt" which is basically just a fresh install kit. I'm not getting any of the xx or whatever error messages.
2. AC Delco TPMS sensors cost quite a bit less. Are these as good and long lasting as OEM or should I spend the extra for OEM?
Many thanks helping me here. This is my first Corvette so just trying to make the right decisions.
When i bought my forgestars, i had them put new TPMS's in them. Not sure what the company used, maybe OEM? But all i know they work great. My original wheels/tires only had 6k miles on them. And my car is a 2012 so i know they'd be good for many years to come. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of taking them off and putting them on the new wheels etc.
The sensors are cheap, i think 30 bucks each, its worth it.
Not sure if time or miles impact the life. My BBS wheels have the original sensors, track wheels have new sensors, but little use and my drag radials don't have any sensors.
My 2008 Acura still has the original sensors, but they only get used for 7 months because I have winter tires for it and they still work fine as well.
As stated previously, for $30 a wheel, it maybe cheap insurance. My car tends to eat tires, and I have access to a tire machine, so I may look at it different if I had to pay $50 a wheel to get tires mounted and balanced.
