I need help, and before I go to the Chevy dealer want to make sure I have exhausted every possible problem.
I have a 2009 C6 that is sporadically not recognizing either of the key FOBs.
I have replaced the CR2032 battery in each FOB,
I have had the main battery checked and it is at 83%, it was new in 09/2014.
The problem occurs everywhere I drive, it's just not at home in the garage, or just one place.
Placing the FOB in the glove box slot does allow me to start it.
I've searched this forum and I can't find anything else to try or check, UNLESS....I have overlooked a thread somewhere in the forum.
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated, I'm very frustrated right now.
Where do you usually have the key fob when it happens? In mine if the key is in my left pocket I randomly get no FOB, etc.
If I keep it in my right pocket it always picks it up
Probably not your problem.. but figured I'd ask the dumb question and get it out of the way
Thanks for the input, but I have tried that.
I have also tried keeping the FOB away from my cell phone.
Not having my cell phone anywhere near the FOB.
It's a crap shoot on when it works and when it doesn't.
Very frustrating, especially for a car like this, you wouldn't expect a problem like this. It makes me miss my '98 C5.....
I had problems with batteries that have the gridded pattern on the negative side. Try switching one of the FOB batteries to a smooth sided battery. I'm currently using Sony, but previously had AC Delco and maybe Duracell, since I think Energizer and Panasonic are gridded.
I posted up a thread on this about 5-6 years ago.
When the gridded surface batteries were in and didn't function, I could smack the FOB a couple times and it would then work. Because the positive side spring allowed a slight battery movement, that's how I discovered the occasional loss of the ground contact.
Whenever I open the case, I also clean and bend the contacts slightly to create more tension.
I've also found that anything below 3.09 volts is sporadic. A new battery should be over 3.2.
That's a good way to get yourself locked out if you have passive lock turned on and it doesn't see the fob in there. What's wrong with your pocket?
It has just become part of my routine, move fob from pocket to cup holder, drive, then remove key from cup holder.
Its just part of my routine now, like using keys in an ignition barrel. I sometimes forget to put the keys in the cup holder, but knock wood, havent left them in the cup holder yet. That and I have it set so if the ignition is off, and a fob is detected in the car with closed doors it goes nuts.
Yeah I have mine set where it honks the horn if you forget the key in the car.. I look like an idiot when it happens, but it's always warned me when I left the fob in the car
Had it happen to me Sunday then remembered a thread from while back about iPhone in same pocket. Sure enough took it out works fine. Happened to my 07 z06 too 3 years ago. I guess the phones gps or probably any gps screws with it.
It never ever happened with wife's 2012 enclave would think similar circuitry.
