So a couple weeks ago. Did a couple of pulls pulley bolt came loose and pulley started wobbling. While it was down threw a cam in there. Still on stock manifolds/exhaust i ordered long tubes and headers so decided not to tune it just yet. Ive been driving it untuned while barely getting on the gas. At first the cel light was on which is normal but tonight while driving noticed the light went off. Is this normal? Cam is mild cam. 227/234. 613. 576 113 lsa
The code will keep the check engine light on for quite awhile--But eventually they usually go away-However the codes are still stored in your ECM as "history" codes---So your tuner will still be able to pull them up when he does the tune---
That cam is on the high side of a mid mild cam---Definitely requires tuning to get all the HP it can make---If your car is a 6 speed most likely it is drivable-- but on an automatic it can be difficult Mostly because to get it to idle correctly and to get the drivability better the idle speed needs to be increased as well as the base timing at idle
Also a cam adds airflow---So at P/T your fueling will be lean until tuned or the ECM learns out all the fuel trims---However when the ECM is adding fuel at P/T to compensate for the added airflow----It also adds that same % at WOT as a lean safety !! This is normal with a cam---This makes your WOT fuel very RICH and your engine lazy---
Basically-- you end up with an engine that is LEAN at P/T and RICH at WOT !!!!!!!
Complicated I know but easily fixed with tuning----You can be leaving as much as 15-20 HP right now on the table
Just wanted to make sure everything was in the norm. Im definately getting it tuned but wanted to install my longtubes and x pipe before i do but it'll probly be a week or so before i get them in as they were just ordered a couple of days ago. Was just trying to avoid having to have it be tuned twice
