Default How to reset

My buddy has a 2013 grand sport six speed manual trans with extremely low miles under 400 miles. He needs to know how to reset OBD2 module/ sensor. Because car will not pass inspection after sitting in storage so long. Believe it or not this past week he put over 250 miles on car to see if that would help ,my first suggestion was that he drive car a lot more so this won't happen again. I believe he said the oxygen/evap are the ones giving him the problem. Thanks for your help I'm not a mechanic so any help would be appreciated and I will print out responses for him. Thanks David

You can purchase a OBD II scan tool like a
Actron CP9660 POCKETSCAN Plus ABS/OBD II/CAN Scan Tool Actron CP9660 POCKETSCAN Plus ABS/OBD II/CAN Scan Tool
on Amazon.com to read and reset DTC codes as well as check emissions readiness status. There is also a process of driving to ensure the computer is ready for emissions testing. This is the GM Drive Cycle http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html

The evap one can really be a pain to get to ready. I drove my car for 3 months after disconnecting the battery before it turned off.

I finally got tired of it and handled it with hptuners. If he clears the codes with a scanner, it will reset to not ready. He either needs to get the emissions settings tuned (not legal really) or find the perfect drive cycle.

Is he getting faults codes,

or

Did the battery die, and the needed cycle checks on the car have not cycled enough times from the car off, started and drove, turned back off again to be emissions readiness status instead?

On a car that has been sitting too long or an older car those pesky Evap or O2 codes may NEVER be set in the "readiness tests" to read READY----You can spend hours and hours trying to get them to set and they never will-----
Good news is that most always these are false reporting readiness tests so morally you shouldn't feel bad about having a tuner to set them to read "READY" permanently.
Any tuner with HP or EFILIVE can fix this for you--Even a mail order tuner for $150 can do it---

Thanks everyone for your responses. I gave him the printout of GM drive cycle and about the using a tuner. I hope the drive cycle solves the problem. Regarding the battery it has never been disconnected always on a battery tender and he says the battery test good. As for car start /off I'm not sure how many times he has started /off . Out of his 400 miles he put 250 on car this past weekend trying to solve problem . Just don't know if one long ride or a few shorter rides. How many starts / off would he need to possibly solve problem and over what time period ? At least now he is putting on some miles!!

the more city traffic you do helps. keep the tank between 1/2 and 3/4 full and drive the car to work 2-3 days. the stop and go traffic helps to reset the monitors. try to vary speed and revs, that is why i suggest city traffic and not highway. usually after 2-5 hours of driving, not at one time, the computer should be ready to go.

Once resetting a sensor then getting everything to come up "ready" can be a real chore..... I know of a 12' GS that took nearly 300 miles. We had a 13' SS 1LE Camaro and we put nearly 400 miles on it trying to get the sensors in the ready mode. I finally took the car to the tuner and had him manually make everything show "ready" just to pass.

It's a PITA and a lesson learned. Do your inspections in the fall so you have all summer to drive and make sure the sensors are "ready" especially if your the type that disconnects the battery for winter storage.
