Default Header studs - To use or not???

For those who've used studs while installing headers. What problems did you encounter?

Did you find you were able to slide headers past studs or did you have to work at it. Would you suggest studs or header bolts. Not cost, but ease of applying headers.

Thanks IAV ...... HK

The factory header bolts are absolutely trouble free if you use the GM exhaust gasket . The headers are so light in weight....there isn't a problem holding them up from the top of the car while inserting one of the center bolts. Gone are the days of the header bolts loosening up. I used a jack under the header collector to help me zero in on all of the bolt holes. Studs absolutely unnecessary in my book.

I like studs. You can hang the headers on them as you bring them up from the bottom. I will never use bolts again.

I second timd's comment about header studs. I just installed a set of Stainless header studs and it was great because you hang the headers on the studs from underneath while installing them. Another reason is that I've broken a header bolt before so I don't trust OEM header bolts.

I installed a set of long tubes in the driveway a couple months ago. Got the header bolted to the head by myself. Used stock bolts. It wasn't hard at all. I'm sure that studs would have been "easier" but I didn't see a need for them.

I installed the arp header studs and unfortunately on the driver's side I can't get the header to slide over them with them being in place.

Interesting! I used the same kit with no issues, but every brand of headers, can have slightly different fit.

I agree 100%. I'm not upset though, I'm very happy with the fact that I've never had to retighten them like I used to have to with even the stage 8 bolts!
