My 2007 is throwing a code due to an inop fuel sensor. This has resulted in a failed smog test, even though my actual emissions are clean and would pass otherwise. Dealer wants $3000 plus for repair, and the Peoples Republic of California says I must spend a minimum of $650 before I can get a cost waiver (doesn't matter that the $650 wont fix it). I open to ANY suggestion that might get me though this nightmare without having to mortgage the house.
Agree--any tuner can disable the code and you'll be fine. It will then pass the computers checks no problem.
If I were local I'd do it for free for you.
If he has hptuners you could take over his laptop with a free host software. My tuner is 4hrs from me, he got me pretty damn near perfect, I just watched him take over....it was kinda cool. Then we met at the track

That is a good idea. I use something similar at work all the time when people have computer problems hundreds of miles away.
Yep, OP, if you have HP Tuners or access to it I'd be willing to show you what to do or do it for you via team viewer

This is what this forum is about right here. I see you post much help, as do I. Think we have nothing better to do than scroll through the threads and see if we can help in some way
Now if we could get the vendors in their own section we wouldn't have to weed through the ads lol.
I think everyone should have hptuners btw, it's a great tool that allows us to help on another level

Indeed. The ads are getting to be a bit overkill. Especially ones for like clutches in the scan/tune section.. I mean, really? Come on. Ah well, I suppose they help keep the lights on and all
Take it to a tuner, and have them change the DTC code to "3-Not Reported".....the CEL will turn off, and you'll be able to pass.
Thanks for the input, folks. I am intrigued by this recommendation, but I wonder how it would shake out in California, smog check wallet grabbing capital of America. I live in a beautiful part of the state, but unfortunately several hours from any large metro area (LA, SFO...). Does anybody have a recommendation for a good SoCal tuner?

It will work just fine. The computer they connect to your car is simply asking the cars computer if all the emissions stuff is working properly, if there are any codes, etc. The car will report that everything is good to go, if someone makes the appropriate changes..
I don't know any tuners in that area, but if you decide to just buy an HP Tuners interface ($500-650) let me know and I'll help you make the appropriate changes.

Thanks for your ideas. Do I need the Suite or just the Scanner??

Don't screw with the ECU. Just fix the car. Nothing in the fuel system should cost $3K to R&R.
Yeah that's the fuel level sensor. On the scanner tank full should display 2.4volts and 0.70volts empty.
If it shows greater than 2.5volts check the left tank sensor.
But 3000 is absolutely absurd. Still not a cheap fix, but I'd get it done. Stupid though, has 0 to do with emissions.
