Default Will radio effect my tune

Hey guys I got a radio off a buddy of mine that needs to be flashed for my car, to get it out of locked mode. The problem is im pretty far from my tuner and just was curious if this was going to effect my tune (built motor) my local dealship couldn't answer the question so I might be buying a kenwood after all.

So long as the tune was not locked, then the dealer can use the Tech II tool to clear the radio so it can remarry with your car. Hence they will not touch or look at the tune at all on the ECM.

If the tune was locked instead, then it will also lock out the Tech II from being able to communicate with the car in the first place.

The dealer will charge you around $120 for 2mins of work to clear the radio once installed in the car with the tech II (so long as the tune was not locked, and locking out the Tech II as well), and no, tuning software will not clear the radio so it can remarry.

As for if you are upgrading to a Nav unit, make sure that you have Bose in the car now, or if not, then you will need to install a VSS connector to the needed connection instead. ON a Bose OEM CD radio, then needed VSS connector is just tapped back on the main harness.

Also, will need to install a Nav antenna, and maybe even the mic if you want to be able to use voice control.

Really, the $120 dealer gouge is the killing factor on installing another OEM radio since it has to be cleared to remarry to the car to unlock it, and in regards to the OEM Nav unit, although is does display on the HUD that an after market will not, it's so lacking in so many other features, that most just replace them with an after market Nav radio the first chance they get.

Lastly, and this is big one, if you are looking at a used OEM radio, make sure that it fully works before you buy it. Dust in the DVD system can cause problems, or even the buttons/***** themselves do wear out over time, and may end up with a huge repair bill if you need to take it in to be refurnished to get it working correctly again. Hence granted that some guys will tell you that they just pulled it out since the wanted the features of an after market deck, but most of the times, it was due to a glitch in the radio in the first place not working correctly and that was the deciding factor to replace it; instead of having it repaired instead.

Only if it is on a country station

Seriously, I agree with Dano's comments above.

I have done the conversion and hooking up the vss wire was easy. Ray Kawel sells it . Installing the GPS sensor is also easy.

Everything else is plug and play

Some people don't like the oem unit and some do. I like mine . It's easy to use and sounds good
