DOOR BUTTON INTERIOR HAS TO BE PUSHED SEVERAL TIMES TO OPEN THE DOOR COMPLETLY. IT CLICKS BUT WON,T RELEASE THE DOOR ALL THE TIME. BUT THE OUTSIDE WORKS OK AND THE FLOOR RELEASE ALL WAYS WORKS. 2007 CONVERTABLE Z51 34K MILES. THANKS FOR ANY HELP. JOE
If the outside pull pad works fine, then the problem is the push button switch instead.
The push button and cover will pop out of the door with ease. Just use a button knife on the bottom of the cover to first pop the button and cover out the door, then unplug the connector for it.
From there to pull the button apart so you can clean the contacts on it in the last photo of this series,
Here are the 4 copper colored contacts that you need to clean on the board and the bottom of the button!!!!
And if you need to repaint the button since the paint if flaking off, then clean/remove off the old paint, re-shoot the button, and before the paint sets up, use a tip of a small drill bit to just remove the dot of paint on the center of the button.
To add, since you have a can of spray contact cleaner, you can clean the outside pull pads, and even the release hatch bottom above the rear license plate as well.
Hatch release button pulled apart and ready to be cleaned,
And even a Fob pulled apart to be cleaned as well,
Bottom line, if you plan on replacing something like a switch, when all it needs is just to be cleaned instead, the car is going to get real expensive, real quick for upkeep!!!!
As for the door latch itself (and other latches like the hood latches), just spray them with some silicon spray once in a blue moon to loosen up it's internal dried out grease parts so the internal parts can move freely again.
Since it isn't both of the buttons (exterior and interior) giving you a hard time, I'd say to look at the interior button first and try to clean and/or replace that as already suggested.
But if that isn't the problem the driver door latch assembly is part #88956758 and is around $150 or so.
You have to remove a few plastic interior trim panels and pull it out from the inside after removing the screws, then transfer the mechanical pull cables and electrical plug but not all that difficult to change.
I had a long reply written about but hit the wrong button.. so you're getting the short version
Basically, are you hearing the "clicking" noise every time you hit the button on the inside or does it sometimes not do it? I've had to replace the latch on mine as it got to where it wouldn't open half the time unless I pulled the release cord from the trunk.
