Default Coolant temps rise when car off

Pretty much.. I tried to do some searching on my phone couldnt find much.. When i am driving car will go between 210-230.. ( i do have a A&A intercooler installed) blow is not installed yet just piping..

But anyways car will say be at 219 when i shut it off. If i turn the car back on ( not start ) i can watch the coolant temps go up to about 240-255.. I have done the trick where you unplug the T block it up blow on the over flow tube and that did not work. So looking for other suggestions..

My other question is i will be getting a tune soon( BY Dr Phil). What temp should i have the fan come on and is it possible to have fan run for 30secs or a min idc after car is off to keep cooling?

It's always going to increase when you turn it off.

Yes, you can make the fan run after the engine is off if temp is over a certain # when you turn the car off

It depends on how long it sits. If it just sits a few mins you'll see the temps go up the most (in my experience anyways). After it sits for 30+ minutes it seems to start going down

I've noticed the same on mine during quick restarts

It's just the heat from the cylinders continuing to heat the water & sensor in the block. Since the water isn't moving at that point, it heats up for a bit, then levels off, then cools back off

gotcha.. 250 or higher seems like bad juju.. Why i want to get that fan on earlier for one so it cant get that high during driving and 2 have the fan going after the car is off to help cool it off from heat soak

As has been stated, the temps will rise for a bit after shutdown b/c coolant is no longer being circulated through the block. However, 240-255 seems high to me.

Assuming you have a 160^ or 178^ t-stat installed, have the fans turned on at 190-200^ or so. Lower temp t-stats do no good if the fans are not reprogrammed to compensate for the lower temp t-stat.

You can certainly have a manual override toggle mounted so that you can run the fans after shutdown for as long as you want. I've done that for cars I raced at the drag strip often.

I set mine to start coming on in the high 190's and ramp up to 90% around 210. I haven't had any problems with coolant temps so that has worked fine for me. Very rarely see 210.

The heat soak phenomenon is more dramatic if the car is shut off after driving up a long hill. The cooling system keeps up until the water pump and fan are shut off, then temps rise. Also,it can ruin a turbocharger because the oil flow stops but the turbo is still very hot. After being run up a hill, a turbocharged car or truck should be idled for a couple of minutes before shutting it off.

I might have to do the manual switch for now. Until I get tuned..
Would u happen to have a link to a write up on how to do that or what needs to be done for that. And what's a good temp to turn em on. And is running them to long bad? I mean I get they can wear out faster.

Doesn't have a schematic, but I'm sure there are those on here too somewhere if you search.

You realize that running the fan won't cool the engine off if it's not running? If you want to cool the engine when it's not running you need to install an electric water pump and run it.

Beware battery drain, the fan and a pump draw a few amps.

Frankly I wouldn't worry about the heat after you shut it off. As already stated, this really only matters for turbo cars, every car on the road heats up like this and it's not a problem.

ok.. I figure if i have it tuned for the fan to come on sooner it will keep the downs anyways and wont get as hot when it shuts off as well

Certainly your tuner will know this but be sure you don't go above 90% on any temp or you'll burn up your fan connector. And if you command more than 25% in the lowest cell, 192, the fan will run all the time full blast and you don't want that.

More info and pics.
