Not looking for any tremendous performance change, but on my Camaro SS I changed mufflers to a Flowmaster and got a better sound. Would doing something like this to the C6 help? I do run the Wild 99% of the time and like the sound.
If you want better sound, of course you can change the exhaust.
You have be careful on which exhaust you choose though. If drone is a concern, the corvette can have awful drone depending on the exhaust.
I have had 5 different systems on my car, I can handle some drone and can say that two systems I have tried shouldn't even be sold in my opinion. (Again, just my opinion.)
The B&B bullets (Z06 series) sound great, but the drone is unbareable.
The GLH street series were even worse. (Nicest tips though.)
The Borla ATAK is my favorite, makes the car sound mean. The tip spacing is nice. (Drone is not an issue)
I have the Corsa extreme now (2.5" kit, not made in 3") and do not like them at all. The sound is too quiet below 3k, and I am not a fan of the tip spacing. (Drone is not an issue)
I would suggest going to a local corvette event and listening to some for yourself. Buying different systems can get expensive.
I have the BB PRT mufflers and I think they're the perfect mix. From inside the car, you barely hear a rumble at idle and at heavy throttle they get really deep and a bit louder. From outside the car, they sound awesome even at idle. I strongly recommend these if you're looking for slight increase in volume, much deeper sound and no drone (literally, no drone at any speed or RPM).
As another option, I personally like my QTP cutouts. They sound great outside the car, and importantly, inside the car. Because the exhaust is directed at the ground the sound is very deep which I like.
I did a thread nearly 9 years ago on them and I like them as much today as I did then.
Keep your long term mods in mind when choosing a muffler system.
On my C5 I had Borla Stingers and they sounded great with stock manifolds. When I installed headers sound went up 25% but was still reasonable...though the drone was a little troubling.
When I installed a big cam the sound went up 50% at least and it was just plain obnoxious. Great for the track but it was horrible in traffic, people used to look at me like my car was broken.
So when I got my c6 I knew I was going to need cutouts. The NPP or Z06 system also fits the bill...quiet for daily driving but loud when you feel like being loud.
SLP loudmouth 2...yes there is some drone around 1000-1500 rpms but I recently did a 10 hour trip, mostly cruise control between 60 and 75, and it wasn't bad at all.
