What option do you recommend going with here, a somewhat bigger cam but still keeping some drive ability or throw a 125 shot at it? Installed and done they are roughly the same price I'm just torn between what I want I love the sound of cams but I like the secret of nitrous when I want it
Headers and exhaust should be first mod then cam and valve train upgrade. You throw a 125 shot on the stock valve train and you might regret it besides cam is full time power
I'm sorry I should have said it but I do have a full exhaust and intake but was wondering what to do next, so far i talked to my performance shop and he pushed away from nitrous just because it'll blow eventually he says haha
Ran a 150 shot on my LS1 C5 for almost 8 years, no issues. Guessing 80k miles or so I put on the car, not sure how many on the bottle
The great thing about nitrous is its not hard on your car all the time. You can turn in on when you want or when you have traction. Great flexibility on the street.
A nitrous car is going to run away from a lot of cars.
The only real downfall is that ugly bottle hanging out in the back and you have to refill it.
I have both, i did the cam then shortly after installed the nitrous.
I like having the extra 40rwhp all the time. The bottle is awesome though but only use it when i need it. What i'm saying is you'll use the can a lot more than your going to use the nitrous.
100-150 shot will go all day with the right equipment. Nitrous is the best bang for the buck. 125 shot gains 125rwhp +. Cam will gain 20-40est rwhp.
Let me know if I can help or answer any questions.
I'd love the nitrous route and it's definitely the way to go with having more power when I want or need it but I just don't wanna blow the thing up, and for the same quote on nitrous or a cam I was torn on what to do,
I Too LOVE the sound of a cam YET i Love probably more often How sleeper our cars our,. how quiet and smooth,.... you cant turn off the Bigger cam... or you can do a smaller one.... but wont give you as much as say a 100-125 shot...
I love nitrous for the reason its an off/on switch and the Power curve is EVERYwhere,... you can shave a second from ET times with a 75 shot where as you Wont be able to with a cam Unless you support it with gearing/tune/BESt launch...
yes the down falls is getting heat in the bottle to be consistent in street or track (I only use it for track BEcause Im a P&$^#&Y) and re-fills... BUt all are just habits... in spring and summer a Cheap blanket works and if you get a 2nd and 3rd bottle its a minute swap...
ofcourse this is the part where if your buddies are around and ITs NOt a look of A sleeper when you are taking that action ....
It depends on what you are looking for. A cam will cost you extra money because it will typically get worse gas mileage than the stock cam. You won't be able to get the horsepower gain with a cam that you can get with nitrous. Do you only occasionally want the extra power? If so, nitrous is the way to go. A good tune, and a good install is important to make sure you don't blow the engine up. If you want less trouble when you want to use the nitrous, you want a remote bottle opener and as already mentioned, if you want the most consistency you want a heater blanket for the bottle.
I had a 200 shot on stock valve train with no issues. And still used the stock pump. Nitrous forsure will be faster than a cam but in the long run will be more expensive than the cam due to bottle refills. Depends how much you are spraying and how often you use it.
