Default Loose rear view mirror....Help

I just purchased a 2005 C6 and the rear view mirror is loose where it attaches to the windshield...There is a piece of plastic covering the arm going down to the mirror , does the plastic piece just pop off of is it more elaborate then that...Also is there a screw holding it on like on my C4 or something else..I figured I would ask instead of trying to pry it off and breaking it..It's strange having a new car I know nothing about, on my C4 I knew every nut and bolt .Thanks WW7

WW7,
Have you tried doing a search. Here is one link but I know there are more out there. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...assspring.html.

Your next question is probably " how do I get the mirror off?". Again, try a search. My best memory on the subject was to grasp the mirror assembly and turn it 90 degrees and it will come off at the window glass.

Hope this helps.

The mirror will come loose when the (3) holding pins inside the base assembly get bent. In order to fix this, you have to remove the mirror from the windshield, remove the 3 pins, either straighten them out or you can get (3) 5/64" (2 mm)drill bits (hardened kind best) and cut them to length (1" I think).
Some .078" (2mm) piano wire from a hobby shop, cut to length will also work.
I just straightened mine out, and re-used them. I try not to adjust my mirror too much, just so I won't have to redo this. If so, then I will get the hardened bits.
Here is a PDF that should help you remove, and fix shaky mirror.

..I just went out and removed the mirror as per instructions.. I didn't have a torx driver small enough to remove the screws so I just bent the bars back out with a small blade screwdriver...Seems to be tight now, and like "LV2TOUR" , once I adjust the mirror I shouldn't have to touch it again since I'm the only one driving the car....Thanks for the help guys......WW

The 5/64 drill bit trick worked perfect for me. I lived with mine being loose for over a year before finally trying it.. no issues since

Just an update, most of the posts say the torx bit size to remove the 3 small screws on the back plate of the mirror is a number 6 torx , this is wrong...The correct size torx bit to fit the screws is a number "8" torx bit....Hopefully this will stop you from buying the wrong one like I did......WW

The 3 pins are available from GM as well under part #25896360. I have purchased them and can confirm their existence. It was about $20.

I'm surprised they exist as a service part number. I would almost bet the drill bit alternative will hold up better

Some people don't want to bother with cutting drill bits. They might not have a bench vise, hack saw or file. They possibly live in an apartment. It's good to have options!
