Default non Z51 track mods help

Hey guys just got my first vette 08 M6 non z51 with 5K miles will be picking it up in a few days. Needed some help on some mods that will need to be done before taking on a road course. will it overheat pretty quickly without the z51 pgk?

also looking into sway bars and shocks. I seen a few people say to get sway get z51 sway bars and shocks but i figured going aftermarket would be better any tips? something not too expensive

also will be getting either R888's or hankook RS3's

I will buy Wilwood brakes and LG coilovers and sway bars.

I have Wilwood brakes and had a Pfadt kit, but when the coilovers turned to junk, I bought LG's and am very happy with them.

What is your track day experience? You say it's your first Corvette. Will this also be your first time on a roadcourse?

If so, stay on street tires, doesn't matter what tire for the first 2 to 3 events you do.

Get Carbotech XP10/8 brake pads, Motul 600 brake fluid.

That's all you need for your first few events.

Learn how to drive on a roadcourse first, then worry about modifying your car.

Your first few events, you will be overwhelmed with information in learning how to drive on a roadcourse, doesn't matter what car you are driving.

My 2 cents.

Especially with the brakes... The base ceramic brakes are not good for track days. They get real spongy after 1 lap.

Just make sure your car is in healthy running order. Enough tread on your tires, good amount of brake pad/rotor life, and all of the fluids are topped off. Some even add an extra quart of oil, I believe the owners manual recommends this as well. You don't need to upgrade anything on the car at this point. It's already better than you. Go out there with no ego and an honest desire to learn. Keep your eyes and ears open and enjoy yourself.

I have been almost exactly where you are now and absolutely agree with all the responses to learn to drive first. That said, I also agree with the advice re your brakes: Track pads are good (and I also use HP10/HP8s with a set of rotors I just use on the track), high temp brake fluid is critical. And, of course, add an extra quart of oil. As you get faster and learn to drive there are some other things you can consider: oil cooler (Z06 is probably best), Z51 sways, convert to the Z51 rotors and brackets, consider an oil catch can, put on stainless steel brakelines, etc. I suggest you NOT try to add power - unless you have a lot of track experience, the car is a LOT better than you will be for a long time and has plenty of power. A test will be when you can beat the Miatas in the turns (!), you can consider other mods. Since my car is not a DD, I have had camber put on the wheels to improve handling and reduce outside edge tire wear. But I am reluctant to spend a lot of money on mods (e.g. converting to steel bushings) and am trying to become the best driver I can first. As you can probably tell, my mods typically center on improving engine life, and safety such as reliable braking and improving handling all at a reasonable cost. Sorry I was a bit long winded. Mostly stay humble and have fun! Be aware it is addicting!
