Default deciding on a stall converter

im looking to pick up a stall for my 2006 vette. i see a few options out there with some major price differences. i have used vig converters years ago but its been a while since i have even thought about this type of stuff. just not sure who to go with.

im looking to put a 3200 stall in my car.

thoughts on B&M? yank? vig?

i know yank is best, but is it really worth it? i drive the car every day. if there is not much difference in performance and reliability then i would go with the cheaper option of course but i would like some input.

would i need to get the car tuned once this gets installed?

thanks for the help and answers to whomever replies.

I assume you have a cam which is prompting this ask, do you take it to the drag strip? I personally just did a ton of research on this topic and it led me to Yank.

If it's a DD stay single clutch IMO, keep the "bucking" to a minimum.

So, if you hold off I'll have some actual feedback on the yank I ordered a Yank Pro Series 3400 on Monday, but I'm sure some of folks here will give some feedback on yank and others.

Yes you will need a tune, unless you get a real mild converter or one that specifically states no tuning needed.

Good luck, and post up some pics, tells us what mods you have already.

I'm glad I'm not in this boat alone... Ive narrowed my search down to the Circle D High Performance @ $550 and the Yank SS @ $845 (I may only go to the strip 4 times a year)... looking forward to what everyone says here.

We have a 2004 Coupe but putting a Yank SS4000 in it, and only doing a tune and BFG 18" drag radial after that, made a WORLD of difference! ET went from 13.30 stock to 12.20 with a 1.6x 60' time and we drove it over an hour to the track no issues. The Yank SS is a great converter and worth the money. These cars are so difficult to change the converters on so my theory is pay a little now and get the best; do it right the first time! Also, don't be afraid to go a little looser on the converter if you plan to race it at all. We don't but could very easily DD our C5 with a 4000. I've known a few guys who went 3200 or 3400 and kicked themselves for not going looser. Remember, these are OD cars with lockup converters so they're not like the autos and loose converters of yesteryear.

I've been through a Yank 3200, then a Yank 3600, and currently a Yank 4000 with my '08 bolton. Best 60' times were 1.85 w/stock, 1.70 w/3200, 1.56 w/3600, and 1.48 w/4000. There were other mods interspersed, so 1/4 mile times don't tell the whole story.

It's a DD with 128K miles. I started the converter swapping phase about 55K, then 71K, and finally (because I'm not doing it again without a lift) at 109K.

My wife, who never went WOT from a stop, couldn't tell the difference between stock, 3200, or 3600. However, she easily noticed after I installed the 4000.

Hope that helps a bit.

+1 for the yank. I started with a Yank SS3600 and it was too tight for my liking so got it restalled to a SS4000. Yank does offer a 1 year free restall if you arent satisfied with your choice in stall speed. I daily my car with the 4000 and the only side effect is worse gas mileage around town. Been giving this converter hell with the stock trans and a ebay trans cooler and still going stong. Best 60 foot on it was a 1.37 with a lot of 1.4 60fts. Car is currently bolt ons ls3.

And just a heads up when you install it I'd recommend getting a new front trans seal for the converter as mine leaked when I installed my yank with 21k miles on the car. Better to spend the $20 and extra 10 minutes than pull the trans again.

I went for a ride in an 08 w/yank 4000. I would never run 4000k in a DD as mileage will suck around town since rpms are quite a bit higher until it locks out (around 50mph if I recall).

Stock trans with about 450 1/4 mile launches.

My in-town mileage with the 4000 stall is in the 18-21 range, which is better than my V-6 Silverado. Highway remains in the 26-29 area. Fuel economy has never been on my list of requirements on any of the 60+ vehicles I've owned, but I've usually checked out of curiosity.

BTW, lockup on mine is at 40 MPH in 5th with light throttle and 168 at WOT.

I put a 2800-3200 stall in my Z28 and it was my DD. It was fun at first but got old real quick. I'm awaiting the tranny to go so I can change it back . I bought a RevMax and it has been good now for about 6 years.

I hate price on the Yank but love the converter and is all I use as they are so efficient and make a world of difference, I went from a vig to a Yank and gained two tenth and 3 mph.

A word of caution if you are like me you will dispise a slipping converter I like em tight and when go time comes to go to 4,600 or higher rpms and yam hard, people who never tried one of these won't know how nice is to have it both ways, all you do is call Dave at Yank and ask.

I went with Yank, and I am Happy with my choice. 3200 SS is probably what you want for a DD. I don't even think that you need a aux transmission cooler with a 3200. You will feel a difference from a dig, but it will drive like stock.

I went with an Yank also, love the way it performs. Its my 2nd yank 1st was ss3600..., then ss4000... 1.4s 60fts..love them. My cam is on the large side so 3600 an up is what matches rpm on cam I have. I have it to locked up at around 55mph smooth......

My experience is limited to 4-door sedans (Currently own a '95 and '96 Impala SS's and a 2014 Chevy SS), all of which are 450 to 550 rwhp.

That having been said, my 2014 SS has a Yank SS3200.....love it!

FWIW.
