I have a 2011 Grand Sport convertible standard shift with 20K miles. I have noticed a very strong smell, like something burning, after I have reved the engine a few times and then accelerate from a standing start. I have immediately pulled over and checked the car out but cannot determine what is causing the odor. I suspect it is the catalytic converters. After running the car ofr a while and pulling into my garage, I notice the smell again but not as strong. Dealers are no help. I further understand that there is a recall to replace the converters on 2006-7 models.
there isn't a recall or special policy on cat converters related to C6 at this point. Odors are tough to diagnose. OBDII is supposed to pick up any condition that would cause car to fail emission test, kill cat converter, or converter failure. My only suggestions are: 1) Visual inspection for any leaks 2)something contacting exhaust or something else that is hot. 3)staining indicating chemical or debris on something hot. You could also check condition of diff and trans fluids for odor indicating overheated fluid.
Since it's a 2011, if you haven't already; I recommend fluid change of all the operating systems. (Amsoil Signature Series) The Transmission, rear diff, brakes, clutch, Power Steering, Coolant & engine...It can't hurt to have the highest quality synthetic fluids in it...just for good measure.
