Doing a waterpump on a friends 09 C6 base. His pump is off and new pump is ready to be installed with gaskets, but the gaskets look pretty tough ti line up because there is two of them. haven't tried to put it in yet, but is there any trick to installing these gaskets or do they just line up easily for the most part? Maybe some gasket sealant to make them stay in place?
I always like to have a helper with this because the gaskets can be a pain. One person handles 2 bolts on the left and the other 2 bolts on the right and it flies on.
Otherwise some people use a small dab of rtv to stick the gasket on or make a temporary set of studs to slide the water pump gaskets on then the pump and replace with bolts once it's all in place.
It's much easier on cars where the hood isn't in the way to do it solo and just hold everything yourself.

You mean use 6 studs to hold the gasket to the block, then attach the water pump, then take one out at a time and replace with water pump bolts? I was actually thinking of the two person method. One person lining up each side so it goes is evenly.

You really only need 4 studs at the most (2 on each side), but you could probably make a single stud on each side work if you got long enough ones that you could tip the bottom of the pump up and wiggle the gasket around underneath to line up a second bolt..but yes. Making your friend help will be faster regardless
I did the water pump change out by myself, and used studs to hold the gasket in place, put the water pump over the studs, then replaced the studs with the bolts.
Piece of cake.
Lots of good suggestions already posted....if you don't have studs available....stock bolts can be protrude just enough to hung gaskets, then masking tape bolts to held secure in place on pump during installation.
Additionally, due to the limited sealing surface interface, I put a thin layer of anaerobic sealant on both side of the oem gaskets to provide additional assurance.
A little background on my '05, due to faint coolant smell after driving, disassembled site check lead to existing start failure on both gaskets as well as corrosion on all the stock water pump bolts. Aside new gaskets, I also use ARP stainless water pump bolts. Two years gone by, no more coolant smell and the '05 pump is still doing its job.
