Default Crazy Electrical Problems, 2013 Callaway Z06

Hey guys,

I hope someone will read this who has had similar issues and can help me with mine. I have a 2013 Z06 Callaway S652. It has 23,000 miles on it. I absolutely love this car, but I am having some problems.

About 2 months ago the car developed an issue with starting. It would turn over but not fire. This was an intermittent issue and the dealer found a bad connection under the fuse block located in the engine compartment. They said the underside of the fuse block was melted. They replaced the entire fuse block and the problem was solved. Now I have a new problem that started last week. I have not taken it to the shop yet.

The car starts and runs fine when it is cold. After warming up to normal operating temperature it will still continue to run fine until you shut it off. When you shut it off warm and then restart, the starter drags as if the battery is weak (the battery is brand new, just replaced), but then the car will crank. After it cranks, I get a check engine light on the dash, the tach stops working, I get "service traction system" and "service active handling" messages and the car is running in reduced power mode. If I leave the car for several hours and it cools down completely, it will crank and run fine again until you shut it off and restart with it warm, then the nightmare starts over again.

Can anyone offer any advice on this issue? Your help is greatly apprecaited.

Beauty of the car, is it can be diagnosed with your qualified GM Dealer's assistance. Anything here would just be guesswork, sorry.

Please have your dealer call our office if we can provide any technical support, but GM procedures will get them through. Thanks.

Okay, but the dealer will have tools to read any codes set. In the meantime, I gave our tech dept. a heads-up so if your dealer requires any input from our end, we can help.

BTW, Your car is 1 of 1 in the color, Night Race Blue.

Thank you very much! I will be sure to tell the dealer to call if they need your assistance.

I had no idea that I had the only one in this color. That is Awesome!

Got get your codes checked out with a code reader somewhere, but the dealer will surely get it sorted. It's nice to see the builder respond to you so quickly in here and offer assistance.

Sounds like weak battery/starter or wiring. Of course that's just a guess from a guy on the internet, but don't assume just because the starter/battery are new that they can't be the problem.

I had the battery checked and it is good. I have not had the starter checked yet. Thank you for your input. Keep it coming!

I'd take a look at the terminals on the battery cables too. Mine were in pretty poor shape and the new GM ones I bought to replace them were very light weight. I ended up cutting them off and installing aftermarket ones

My car has a lot more miles on it though so yours may be fine.. just something else to check out.

I took the car to the dealer this morning. A couple of hours later they called me and said that the battery checked bad (3 month old battery) and that it had a Crankshaft Sensor code on the computer. They then told me that they cannot work on the car because it won't go on their lift... I picked up the car, thanked them for their time, and took it over to Aaron Scott at South GA Corvette. I should have done this to begin with, but Aaron is normally very busy and has a waiting list. I called him and he told me to bring it on. I have always had good service from him. He did a H & C package on a 03 Z06 for me and it was amazing.

This dealer has a new Z06 with Z07 package sitting in their showroom. If they can't get my car on their lift then they can't get the new Z06 on it either. I did not buy my car from a dealer, but I would not be happy if I bought a car from a dealer that is not even equipped to service what they sell..

The car is fixed! It was a bad battery... The battery was only 3 months old, but it was only putting out 240 cold cranking Amps. Aaron said the low voltage from the battery was causing the computers to throw codes during start up after the car got warm since it takes more power to start a hot engine than a cold engine. He put a new GM (factory spec) battery on it and everything is perfect now. Thanks to all of you who offered input and advice on this problem.

Great! I like happy endings!

I would still check the charging system to make sure everything is working properly.

Yes, Aaron checked it. He also checked for power draws when the car was turned off. All is Good!

Glad that your car is fixed!

That's a bit silly that the dealership used a cop out of not being able to get it on the lift. All they would have to do is put 4 2x4's down and drive onto them and then the lift would fit.
