Several great builders on the forum that can help you with a stronger diff. I did mine myself and that was a mistake. RPM, RKT, ECS, etc.

I just changed my diff after a heads and cam and went for the ZR1 3.42 the one i removed have 23k miles and is out of a 2011 A6 grand sport and has the factory 2.73 gears upgrade in it, if you can use that let me know.

You may have to change your input shaft on the trany sense these I believe comes with the heavy duty Z input shaft, i can work you out a good deal I'm rite here in Miami I can install it for you as well or help you out.

Hi,

We have many different options for a differential in your C6. Our most popular is the 3.15 and 3.42 Stage 3 build. We would be happy to build you one and get you back on the road.

Give me a call at 1-800-406-1109 and we can discuss what would work best for you.

Thank you,
Jeremy

I think the auto trans and Z have the same spline shaft.

Yes, that is correct. I installed a Z06 diff in my 2013 GS. Straight bolt-in deal, except that you need some plugs for the oil cooler lines on the Z diff. I bought the kit for that from Zip along with the new diff.
One thing that has been noted however, is that, because of the larger ring gear diameter in the Z06 diff, the splines on the output shaft of the A6 do not engage fully in the pinion, to the order of about ~3/4". I don't think that is a big deal though, as and l haven't heard about anyone shearing the shaft because of this yet. There's guys who swear by this combo, like subfloor, who has made 100s of passes on his 427, A6, Z06 drivetrain, running ~1.2x 60' times with the front wheels dangling out of the hole. If it works for him...
Having said that, if I had to do it over again, I would probably just go with 3.15s and do over the stock A6 diff with a few upgrades.
I like the 3.42s, but they make 1st gear almost totally useless, IMV.
My recommendation would be to get an upgraded A6 diff from RPM with 3.15s.

Base manual is 27 but auto are 30. Z06, ZR1 manuals are 30, so they should bolt up.

I have a base car and built a whole diff from parts. It started as a ring and pinion, then a Quaife, then HD out put shaft, then the bigger pinion bearing, then a cooler, so I ended up buying the remaining parts to build a whole diff. The issue is that I ended up spending $5K, but I got what I wanted.

If you're not racing the car anymore, just stick in another 2.56 and be done. No other changes needed.

There's no other changes needed to stick in a 2.73 either.

A change in the tune to correct the speedo would be needed.

The gear itself will not fit on the output shaft of a base model automatic car. It will however fit a base model manual output shaft.

But the complete differential will not fit either transmission. 05 Differential cases are 05 specific and terribly unreliable.

I have a 2008 c6a6 2.56 take out diff after going to the 2.73. It has 23000 miles on it and is available if you want. My zip code is 29607. Make me an offer.
